Read as an antidote

I love alot of things, but reading is by GREAT passion. If a book is good enough I'll just stay up all night to finish it.

I am in a mother daughter book group: The Literary Cats. There are four girls and four moms and we read one book a month. I've loved book group so much. It is such a great way to find the depth the author... more »

I disliked the writing style, it's pretty dry and it was all from the chicks perspective, with no dialogue. I also didn't like the main character, you might argue that she was acting like any regular teenage girl would, but she seemed overly selfish to me. To be honest though, I didn't read the entire book, only about a fifth, so maybe it had some great redeeming value, but I didn't read that part. Thats why I didn't like it.

    Hello,
Yes, I'm a YA librarian. Yes I was at midwinter!
    Are you going to annual?
I've had to slow down on my advance reading because I am reviewing the 12 titles for our summer reading competition.
So many books, so little time!

    Re: Kurt Vonnegut

I've read Slaughterhouse Five and A Man Without a Country, and I really liked both. He was an old curmudgeon and a pessimist, and by all accounts was ready to "be done with it" but I still think the world feels a bit empty today.

I haven't read Bloody Jack or the Looking Glass yet, but I have them on request at my library. I'll let you know though! I just finished The Pirates! In an Adventure with the Scientists and it is pretty funny. It's the first in a series of three so far.

Thanks for the recommendation. Did you like the Bartimaeus trilogy? They've been on my list for awhile but I haven't gotten around to them. Worth it?
