8th Grade Math Teacher, Country music and trivia fan. Reading fanatic. If I tried to list all the books I've ever read... well, it would be impossible to try to recall them all, so please enjoy a list of what I've read from 1/1/05 till today. As of 6/4/07, they will be added in the order I read 'em.

A book about a teacher with a challenging time who doesn't quit at the end of the book? Wow!
In fact, a little internet searching found that Mrs. Zajac taught 20 years and spent 15 years as an administrator in the Holyoke public schools. My hat's off to her!

  • Making Rounds with Oscar
    • Rated 5 stars

This was an outstanding book! I was very glad to read this and find that it didn't come to the conclusion that Oscar was an angel, or sent by God, or something supernatural. Instead, I enjoyed Dr. Dosa's investigations and the stories about this cat who was a great last comfort to a number of people.
I also was very happy to read such a strong endorsement of hospice and palliative care. This should be read by anyone with a loved one with serious health problems.

I knew it was going to be erotic. There has to be a better word for this. Embarrassingly erotic? Too much erotic? The story was interesting.

  • The Eastern Stars: How Baseball Changed the Dominican Town of San Pedro de Macoris
    • Rated 2 stars

I have enjoyed Kurlansky's other books, but this was made unenjoyable by his lack of baseball understanding. I don't want to read an explanation of what a grand slam is, and I can't imagine anyone picking up this book who would need that explanation. Hitting .298 is not the same as getting a hit once every three times at bat. You don't "score a home run."

  • Recovering Apollo 8: And Other Stories
    • Rated 2 stars

Some of these stories had interesting ideas, but almost all of them had unsatisfying endings. At least in my opinion. Then again, the author tells us all the awards these stories won in her afterword. So, what do I know?

Reading this book, it was very easy to imagine every single piece as read by him on his show. A highly enjoyable book.

I read "Eat Pray Love" and hated the author. I read this and loved the author. Great book, great food, great travelogue.

The main story line was interesting. Puzzle and Riddle were amusing, and Koontz always does an amazing job describing dogs. The rest was a mess. His last several books seem to hinge on ridiculous coincidences, and this is no exception. The twins and the hobo stories seem to be thrown in for extra page numbers. Also, Koontz's little theory of evolution is misguided at best.
