I've loved books my entire life and gravitate towards historical novels and memoirs though I really enjoy books that can make me laugh out loud too! If a book is well written and interesting I can read just about anything and I have no problem stopping in mid chapter if I don't like it. Books drawn from a writer's personal experience also interest me. I enjoy giving books as gifts particularly to children and friends/family.
I am married and have three sons; one grown and two in elementary school. I volunteer as a reading tutor at school and still read to my boys every night that it's humanly possible and I try to pick classics and/or one's that are sure to keep my 9 year old's attention. My group was started to shelve the books my two youngest sons and I have read together and enjoyed the most. In the kids' section Maurice Sendak and Mercer Mayer as well as all things Jan Brett when they were younger are among our most favorite.
Before babies I was self-employed as a national executive recruiter. I took time off from the business world to be a stay at home mom the second time around and am now contemplating a return to recruiting. My husband and I love travelling and dining in fine restaurants. My favorite places are New Orleans, Charleston, Hilton Head, Savannah, Chicago and San Francisco and anywhere in Hawaii. Back in those days my husband and I belonged to a gourmet club and I became a pretty good cook which is truly wasted on 2 boys under 10! I decided to list my favorite cookbooks on my shelf because they were so important to me then (I took cookbooks to bed for night reading.)and now the books I keep are my favorites. Also listed are my favorite children's books. I have listed the ones we read over and over again and enjoyed the most. This way I can keep a list and not fear forgetting the best.
