I've loved books my entire life and gravitate towards historical novels and memoirs though I really enjoy books that can make me laugh out loud too! If a book is well written and interesting I can read just about anything and I have no problem stopping in mid chapter if I don't like it. Books drawn from a writer's personal experience also... more »

Join the Vistas of KY & Appalachian Readers & Authors group as Gail Chandler discusses her book, "The Bluegrass Dream: A Wilderness Adventure of Early Settlers. Here is a brief synopsis of the plot:

In the middle of a snow storm Jess and her Aunt delivered a stillborn that took the life of Uncle David's wife. Devastated by her Father's death in Kentucky Jess vowed to fulfill his dream of life in Kentucky. Dressed in her twin brother's clothes she tried to follow David to the Bluegrass. Weather, Digger and Hutch two Bluegrass long hunters she met, and Indians made her trip very difficult. She reached the Bluegrass on her own and with her neighbor's help she builds her cabin. Then she shared her secret with them. Digger and Hutch returned to the Bluegrass. Hutch found Jess is Jessica and their friction continued. Bandit and Outlaw, Jess' coons added pranks to her life. David and his party arrived, Jess takes in Lightfoot's runaway sister Fawn, then James and Katherine joined the village near Fort McClelland. Jess' life is filled with work, love, Indian raids, death, new life, accidents, nature's elements, and their camaraderie. Hutch and Jess were to be married when he returned from selling their furs in New Orleans. Illinois Indians captured Hutch an hour before the wedding. Jess with the help of Digger and Bill followed on the rivers to retrieve him.

The book can be purchased online in both paperback and Kindle at amazon.com for $15.95.

Welcome to the Appalachian and Kentucky Authors Group! We are so glad to have you. I've noticed that you've read some books on KY and by some KY authors. That's great! You should post them to our group's shelf if you haven't already done so!

Lots of good reading lately - Blood on the Table; I heard you Paint Houses; Shadow Divers; The Book Thief; Colter.....most would appeal to you I think. Esp. I Heard You Paint Houses - Jimmy Hoffa/Mafia stuff; a little repetitive in places, but that didn't bother me too much. What did you think of Lakota Way? I love Joseph Marshall. Just don't try to read too many of his books at once.

Hi! Glad you liked Spellman! I'm trying to restrain myself from buying the new one, trying to wait until it comes out in trade paperback. But I don't know if I have that kind of willpower!! I actually got the first one in hardback at B&N on the bargain table this past summer. Maybe I'll be lucky again, but I don't know if I can wait!!

Oh gawd, I miss Calvin & Hobbes!!! What a wonderful comic that was! Now you've piqued my interest about Little Bunny Foo-Foo, LOL!

I'm so glad you were able to get away, even for such a short time. You needed it!

Sending you lots of good thoughts & hugs...You're doing the best you can w/ your mom & that's all you, or anyone, can ask, my dear!!!

Hi Becky, I don't remember reading Little Rabit Foo-Foo, but I do remember singing/doing the hand actions w/ nursery schoolers many, many years ago. I'm not sure if it's the same one; it involves some violence w/ the rabbits bopping the chipmunks on the heads. LOL

Oh, I hope your mom adjusts ASAP. My prayers, as you ever know, are w/ you.

Hey Becky, I completely forgot to answer your last note about "Books I Hate". That's a really cool trick you did to personalize the book w/ your son! I've done that before w/ my classes & nieces & nephews. Kids love to be at the center of the universe, don't they?
How's your mom? Are you coping OK? Sending you lots of good thoughts & hugs.

Hi! I'm only about halfway through The Spellman Files, but I can tell you it's great! Very funny and a quick read. I just have a lot going on right now and not getting much of a chance to read. But I would recommend it if you like a good laugh--or several good laughs!
