I have been reading the First Crusade by Asbridge. I was intrigued by the idea that Pope Urban preached the Crusade as a papal tactic to consolidate his power. There was no shocking episode that precipitated the Crusade. What did you think of this thesis? Also, how Pope Urban managed to sanctify violence.

I used to gripe when I watched the movie because I usually had read the book first. The movie seemed so confusing.
About those movies - they are mostly like reading/watching a different story. Tom always said that you should just watch the movie like you it was just another story. LOLGood quotes. I don't have any favorites to match those.
