I looooooove to read. Special interests are contemporary lit, anything about natural history and collecting, the occult, philosophy/theory and mythology. But I'll pretty much read anything...from Star Magazine to alchemical tracts. Put something with writing on it in front of me and I'm usually a happy guy.

I'm 36 and moved to... more »

Thanks for adding me as a friend! I see that you have read a lot of books that I have been considering but just haven't gotten to yet. I will be sure to ask for some recommendations as soon as I clear my table of the ones I am reading at the moment. You are doing a great job with the Natural History discussion group too! Cheers,
    Keneti

I hope you will take the time to view my YouTube book trailer at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-t0K34iU6g. I am doing some research about potential characters to play the lead role in the upcoming movie. Hope you can help me out. As Ralph Eggleston Director/Production Designer of Pixar Animation Studios said,
"I LOVED the book! It's a missing, ENDLESSLY fascinating link to the history of Hollywood. Thank you for researching and writing it!! I hope it's been widely well received, as it deserves to be." Best wishes. Gaelyn

    Hey there,
yeah, this rainy weather is killer for staying home and reading. Typically, I'd be in heaven but I came home on Friday evening and found out that some low-life maggot broke into our home. Thankfully, they left all my books, including a few signed first editions that I covet. I do, however, the scumbag stole my book on ethics. The getty exhibit sounds awesome -- how long is it running? I'm getting ready to go back to grad school, so I'm not sure how much time I'll have for outings. Watcha reading now?

    Hi,
many thanks for the answers, they're interesting.
Currently, we had some trouble with our questionnaire at a similar German site, lovelybooks, as the admin wanted to aprove it ;-) so I wait for this to be settled before sending out questionnaires on a broader scale, but I guess we will have interesting insights. I'll keep you posted

Hi, we currently do a university course on 'communities & reading' at the university of Vienna, Austria, and I guess it would be nice and interesting to learn about your experiences with Shelfari and similar platforms. Would you be prepared to answer a few of my and my students qquestions? best ruediger

Oh yes, good old Iliad. Yeah, I've scored some good deals there. It's been a while since I've been. I buy most of my books on Amazon, then Barnes & Noble and Borders when I have to have it now. But there's nothing like a privately owned book store that has a lot of soul and a ton of used books for sale.

Yeah, I now what you mean about bibliophiles being a rare breed in L.A. I was really sad when Dutton's in North Hollywood closed. But the good news is Malibu opened its first book store about two years ago, so that made me very happy, especially since I spend most of my time in that area. I recently finished a book called Perfume. If you haven't read it yet, it might be something you would enjoy.

I was intrigued to find someone else with the 'Ambonese Curiosity Cabinet' on his shelf. And I am intrigued further by browsing through the titles in your library. Seeing 'City of Quartz' made me wish I'd finished the book years ago, before I gave it away.
