Dickter

Since I was about twelve years old, I have been an insatiable reader. Sadly, however, I am a very slow reader. Consequently I have way more books than I will ever be able to read in my lifetime. In addition to the books I have listed on my shelf, I have many more in ebook format that I read on my Palm LifeDrive or Centro, and more still in audio... more »

    A. Michaelson says

Hi, Dickter. I’m the author of The Sandal Maker, a new novel about the public ministry of Jesus from a unique point of view. A story that will take you on a fascinating journey in first century Galilee. I’m including here the publisher's notes from Amazon.com. You can read samples at shelfari.com by entering the title. Let me know what you think. The honor would be mine.

    Book Description
Caleb, an elderly Jew, leaves the safety of his home in Cana on a mission to find a man he believes is in Jerusalem. Miriam, Caleb’s only remaining child, accompanies him disguised as a boy. In the desolation of the war struck Galilean countryside, father and daughter risk their lives to journey south on the Jordan River trail. As they walk, Caleb intrigues Miriam with a captivating story of his youth that will change her future destiny. A story of a time forty years prior when he became a sandal maker in order to observe a man some called the Miracle Worker. Caleb secretly kept notes of the events he saw and heard as he followed the crowds. With his objective, skeptical point of view, he reveals the fascinating ministry of the one he called the “Master.” Heart pounding perils and the threat of death endanger the two travelers, but nothing could foretell the fate awaiting them in Jerusalem!

    From the Publisher
    A. Michaelson's new novel, The Sandal Maker, takes the reader on a fascinating journey back to the year 70 A.D. in worn torn Palestine. The author creatively weaves two stories together, one in the present, the other in the past. Heartwarming, enlightening and tragic, The Sandal Maker paints a portrait of one man's life and his involvement in how the gospel came to be.

Let me know how you like David Liss' book, "The Ethical Assassin." I own it but haven't read it yet. I have really enjoyed some of his other books, especially, "The Coffee Trader."

Dear Dickter: I am an author from Massachusetts. My debut novel HUNTING THE KING was published in April. If you enjoy reading a good thriller, you might like HUNTING. The novel revolves around a charismatic young woman named Molly O’Dwyer. Molly was five years old when she witnessed her mother die in a fire. She never knew her father. After her mother’s death, she was raised on the campus of a Jesuit college. Now an archaeologist, she has been recruited to participate on a dig in war torn Iraq. As a scientist she is compelled to discover whatever or whoever is buried under the sands of ancient Babylon. As an observant Catholic, she is scared that whatever she finds will have devastating consequences for her faith. There is a wonderful YouTube book trailer well worth watching if you have the chance. Hi Dickter: Have you read "The Chase" yet by Clive Cussler? The last time we wrote you had not read it yet. We have 331 books in common. I'm reading all of Bill O'Reilly's books...they should be required reading for everyone. I'm trying to locate all of Glenn Beck's books to read. He will be starting on FOX news after the first of the year...I'm a big fan of his and Bill O'Reilly's. Happy reading and take care.

Hello Dickter, I just had to write and tell you I just started reading The Religion, by Tim Willocks, and I'm having a really hard time putting it down. I love the way he puts in so much detail with a great story line. Well back to reading. Bye for now!

Hi, I noticed that you have read the Daniel Silva books and I was wondering if you could tell me what are the third and fourth books in the series. I have read The Kill Artist and The English Assassin and I would like to read the next one. Thanks,

    Hi Dickter,
we don't have many books in common but your dog LaceSee caught my eye. I scrolled through your notes to see if anyone else mentioned her. I have only recently heard of Havanese. From a tiny picture where you can't see facial features she looks like my Shih Tzu. She's gorgeous, she probably lies on the books if you put them on the floor.☺

    Hi Dickter,
I'm not sure if I've sent you a note since we first became "friends".
Thanks so much for the ispiration your self gives me! How are you liking "Pillars of the Earth"? It's a project, but I found it to be well worth the effort.
My new favorite is Setterfield's "The Thirteenth Tale". My doctor actually recommended it.
Drop a note if you'd like.

Hi there! Thanks for inviting me to be a friend. I haven't met many fellow artists hanging out here on Shelfari. What medium/media do you prefer? I see that your book tastes are ecclectic. There are so many books to read that it would be a shame to stick to one genre and miss something wonderful! My, I'm tired, as it's been a long day here at school. It's Friday and the kids are getting very restless. Well, my 5 minute break is about over. I better slug down this coffee and get back at it!

I haven't read the rest of the "Lonesome Dove" series- have you? I think "Cadillac Jack" and "The Last Picture Show" are the only other two McMutry novels I've read. I liked the screenplay for "Brokeback Mountain", too.
