I don't like candy corn,
No I don't like candy corn.
I really like Halloween,
But I don't like candy corn.

I read dead people. I "fell in love" with Charles Dickens when I was just six years old, after my parents took me to see the film "Oliver!" I'm happily married with a young son, and teach British literature at a...more »

Well, all the drunks and nuts are headed north from here for the weekend, coming your way. I guess you will also get inundated from the north. Just stay off the streets, take care of them, and try to sober them up before sending them home.

This last change they've made is positively soul-killing.
Really, I'd happily take the community questions back if we could have our old discussion format again. It'd be only a small (and often amusing) penance.

Oh, I'm so glad you liked it. I never get tired of reading it - I just think it's one of the most exquisite novels ever. I gave your lovely review a vote, my dear. I hope you'll dig up our old discussion thread about the book and give us a new unread posting to search for.

What a sharp memory you have. I have been trying to forget that in eleven days I will mark another year. On the upside, I've been carded twice in two weeks' time, which means either my moisturizer should be canonized or there are too many myopic people selling wine. I've just changed my desktop over to look at times autumnal and at others fiendish. I shall join you in Halloween-time when I'm on the computer at home and can change my avatar to something spooky. Hubby cannot wait to string the lights and decorate the Halloween tree. Your bubby must be thrilled to pieces.

And, if I recall, correctly, you sit around blindfolded with a pair of measuring scales in your outstretched hand, no?

I love October, too. October and May are my favorite months of the year. Just perfect. I remember how exciting Hallowe'en was as a kid -- "What are you going to go as?" was of course the crucial question. Spiderman, eh? How cute!

Although my avatar is golden, I am also of the breed called yellow dog. I'm requesting an absentee ballot so that there will be a paper trail on my vote. I do not trust those machines in Ohio. I suspect there is no need of such skullduggery in Texas, since we are so outnumbered, nevertheless, let every vote count. Hmmm, wonder if it would be worthwhile making a pilgrimage to Duval County, holding a seance, and seeing how many of those formerly alive people we could get to the polls.

I am of the same breed. I learned at my father's knee to vote Democratic. My first presidential vote was cast for George McGovern and I've never regretted it. Yellow dogs are my favorite kind of Texan.

I've spent a blissful day swimming in Harold Bloom's brain, reading "How to Read and Why." Heaven. Oh, to be his student. Wouldn't want to be his wife, though.

As for Scrabulous, it was replaced by an inferior product called Wordscraper, which is abrasive and rough to be sure. My circle of wordies has embraced the official Facebook version of Scrabble and finds it very satisfactory. If you'd like to join Jill and me in a few games you are most welcome!
