My library card number at the Farmland Public Library is 236. It was a two-room Victorian brick storefront which I knew by heart. My mother upholstered furniture for a living, but she moonlighted as a diner waitress AND a part-time librarian. My brothers and I were allowed only as many books as we could carry-- but we could carry A LOT.

I've been a reader all along, then, and just recently discovered a gift for writing. I can't believe I studied such useless things in college, when I could've been studying literature! (Psychology! Environmental studies! Theology! How practical is that? I am teasing, though-- I loved all of it.)

I'm beginning an MFA in Creative Writing, while parenting young children and pursuing growing interest in fiber arts and spiritual formation of children.

I just read my first Virginia Woolf, and I'm in love. How does a person write anything, after that? « less
