The finest qualities of our nature, like the bloom on fruits, can be preserved only by the most delicate handling. Yet we do not treat ourselves nor one another thus tenderly.

Ouch. Truly speechless; although I could probably count on one hand those in the church who actually know what the Diet of Worms was. The OTHER Luther-related book you see on my "reading now" list is a well-written historical discussion of the Protestant Reformation. I'm about 1/3 into it now...you might want to check it out when I'm done (it's an FBC library item).

Visited CHALL-ees only after your note. Interesting. I'm not a big blog type, tho' I recognize the economy of the medium. Perhaps if I was bored at work more often! Hey ~ I'm not implying anything !!!!

Hi, Tami-No, I haven't yet read anything by that author, but I'll check him out. I've slackened quite a bit in my mystery reading because they have just gotten so gross and otherwise ungodly. However, I still enjoy Elizabeth George, Anne Perry, and PD James (all British ladies), as well as a host of other relatively clean authors. I'm in a book club which accounts for some of the more random selections on my list.
I hope you're doing well! Talk to you soon. Ruth

True. But there is a perceived relevance for church leadership because of the desire to run our churches like corporations. Then it sometimes becomes more about the nature of the position than the nature of the commanding Lord.

I did, but really it was much more of a scan than an examination. I paid particular attention to the discussion regarding pastors' reading of Collins' book. I myself hadn't heard of the "Social Sectors" addendum (it must be more recent than the book), but it sounds like it runs right out of the book. Honesty, I think the model of leadership that we have come to know as "pastor" present-day is such a far cry from the 1st century biblical understanding of the term that we can no longer pretend to justly apply the two as synonyms. How's that for a discussion point?

Did you go through Good To Great? If so, what did you find to be the relevant application points?

The review on "Beautiful Fight" was really good. I am planning to read it. I am working on Spiritual Warfare by Ray Stedman. Highlt recommended. Very practical.

No shame in more books...how many have you deleted already? Plus, some of mine are on a wish list, which means I don't even own them yet! You seem well in the lead still, Tam!

GTG is about the factors that enable companies to make the leap towards greatness, including comments on management styles and perspectives. Read it for a church 'development' course. It's a very good book if this interests you.
