I'm a avid fan of books, libraries and bookstores are my sanctuaries and places to avoid (won't wanna get out). I'm mostly seem carrying a book in my hand regardless where I am; at work, in school, and on the train. I do not have a specific type of genre that I MUST read, so I can only conclude that I read books that are "good". I had read almost all genre and love/hate many of the typical books of the genre. Thus now I go for the author's reputation, trying out new books as it catches my eye while I get my hands on every books of the authors I know won't disappoint.
I love big books, I rarely check out books that are less than four hundred pages. The reasons are pretty simple, I simply can not believe any book under four hundred pages can construct a solid background and characters (ofcourse there are exceptions such as; Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four" and Ayn Rand's "Anthem"). I love detailed novels, so is not surprising to see me with books that weights over a pound. I lusts for details.
I do have a small discrimination toward romance novels as I can't see romance take the center stage. Surely all type of novels consists of some form of romance but a whole novel dedicated toward the concept just seem absurd and dull to me. Even Audrey Niffenegger's famous novel (also one of my favorite) consists of sci-fi elements. But again, I didn't read Nova Roberts so my opinions are purely my own opinion and can be flawed.
I also treat most of the thrillers (aka, James Patterson) as "sandwich novels" as in they only serves as time passers. They're not the type of novels when you finish you'll feel a sense of lost and regret. They only there to give a temporary push on your adrenaline. Nothing more.
