The power of storytelling has been a factor in my life from the moment I took my first breath. My parents always took the time to read to us, and often created their own bedtime stories to keep my little brother and me entertained. Growing up, we had books in every room of the house. Today, it seems I carry on the family tradition, even keeping... more »

In Sworn to Silence, Linda Castillo creates a strong, vivid characters within a suspenseful, heart-thumping thrill-ride of a story.

Kate Burkholder, the lead protagonist, is refreshingly unique and possesses a depth that makes a reader want to know more about her, and why she abandoned the Amish life, yet came home to serve and protect the community she left behind. Kate's counterpart, John Tomasetti, fighting demons of his own, is more than a match for her, with an intriguing multi-layered character of his own that magnetizes our attention to the page. Each struggles to come to terms with their past, while focusing on a very real evil haunting Painters Mill.

If those two weren't enough, Sworn to Silence boasts a community of players that add rich texture and flavor to the novel.

I look forward to reading more about Kate and Tomasetti, and more intrigue in Painters Mill.

** spoiler alert ** I didn't realize what I was getting into when I picked this one up! It leans toward erotica set in a Regency setting. Though well-written, I thought it leaned a bit to heavily on the idea of abuse vs. S&M for pleasure angle. And one particular act between the hero and heroine really turned me off, as in went somewhere I personally wouldn't care to go. Others might not mind it, it just wasn't my cup of tea. That Page is a talented writer, there is no doubt, it was just not my kind of book.

I liked this book, it was lively and the pacing was good, but I would have liked to see more one-on-one between the hero and heroine, to make the falling in love aspect a little more believable.

I really liked this one. It kept my interest, even through the middle when I was wanting to get to the "happening" things... the prose was beautiful.

Ann Roth is living the life. She's followed her dream, living in Hollywood, writing for Famous, taking pride in her methods as a responsible entertainment journalist. Until her boss gave her an ultimatum: Get the "big get" interview with top hottie and known reclusive Malcolm Goddard, or get lost. Against her better judgement, and her nature, Ann decides to pull out all stops to save her dream. Unfortunately, the best laid plans...yadda yadda yadda. But despite her bad luck in Hollywood, an unexpected opportunity falls into her lap that can ressurect her career with Famous, depending on whether she reaches for the stars, or keeps her feet planted firmly in reality and on the right side of her conscience. ******* Jane Heller has woven a light-hearted tale of dreams and whimsy in Some Nerve.Ann, though a bit overloaded with phobias, is a fun character, and what we see of Malcolm, he's interesting, too. I would have liked to see more of him! The ensemble cast supports and adds to the fast-moving plot. Great vacation read!

The language and turn of phrase in this book is a wonderful thing to experience. It is heavy on the "literary" side, which I was so excited about the NeXt premise in the first place, that they were supposed to focus on all the aspects of women's lives not just their love life (too bad they're abandoning this premise and making NeXt more romance-y. Not that I don't love romance, I just like plain old women's fiction, too.) The subject matter in this book is hard to read at times, and reading it can be hard work, which made me a bit restless. At the same time, it kept me intrigued and invested enough to make me want to finish the book and see how things turned out for the characters. In the end, I was a satisfied reader.

This book was okay, but I got a bit aggravated because the way I read them, the characters all seemed to have the same voice, and same over the top personalities. Too much quirkiness is tiresome for me, I guess.

This is a GREAT read! Ronda's humor shines through, adding such sparkle to her work that you almost need sunglasses to read it! I would have liked to read the books to come from this series. We had to say good-bye to Ronda too soon.

This book is fabulous, one I'd expect to find more in the mainstream market than a Harlequin release. Not that there's ANYTHING wrong with Harlequin, it just seemed like a "bigger" story than usually presented by the pubnlishing house.
