HI! I am a 70 year old frustrated writer and poet working undercover as a college english teacher. I divert the pangs of frustration with voracious and eclectic reading habits that range from the highly literary to the downright pornographic.

I am very unhappy to say that this novel reads more like an outline to a normal Koontz novel than a complete work in and of itself. All the plot points are there, all the quantum physics and relationships and love of animals and unexplained mysticals... but without the rich texture and description that have kept me coming back year after year.

This is bar none the strangest book I have ever read. Imagine a science fiction / gothic /western that starts in Hawaii... hmmmmm

Not up to the standard of the first two books, I think this metaphysical "ancient god" take on the Dark Passenger is a cop out.

my feelings about this book are probably as ambiguous as the ending itself. Left me feeling sort of blah.

It's hard to review this book without comparing it to the Kite Runner. This one was more compelling socially, but the characters were not as well rounded. Both were gripping for different reasons... it is hard to fathom that such things have happened in our lifetimes.

I love Heinlein, and this is one of my top five books of all time. Friday is smart, capable, and sarcastic... she was my first female hero.

This was one of my favorite Card novels... and I didn't think the Mormon parts detracted in any way. If you read Card enough, you realize that he includes his religion in every novel in some way, but without preaching it. It's just a part of who he is and what interests him.

What I loved about this book was the detail. The author researched the train circuses that folded during the depression and each incident was from a real circus. I loved the framing of the story, with Jacob's recollections.

An amazing first novel... intertwining the story of a family's secrets and search for love with the fall of a culture and the rise of a religious dicatorship. Well worth your time.
