Thanks to some good poet friends, I have made my way into the world of Shelfari and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.
In short, I am a poet and aspiring author who loves to read. My screen name is the one I use when performing at local open mics and such. I published a chapbook entitled "A Glimpse of My Soul" in 2003 and I have undertaken several novel-length projects since. My "baby" is an autobiographical piece that I am hoping to self-publish some time in the near future called "Prelude to Praise: A Word of Testimony." Most recently, I completed a series of workshops at the Broadside Press Cultural Institute in which we critically studied the work of some Broadside Legacy Poets (Sonia Sanchez, Gwendolyn Brooks, Haki Madhubuti, Audre Lord, Etheridge Knight and Dudley Randall) and performed some of our own work that was developed as a result of studying the styles of these various poets. The wonderful experience has garnered me some new poet-friends that I am proud to welcome into my "circle of trust."
Professionally, I currently work for the Detroit Board of Education and I am in hot pursuit of a second Master's Degree. I have a B.A. in English from Wayne State University, and M.B.A. in Marketing from Davenport University and in 18 months I will complete a M.Ed. with Secondary Teaching Certification in English and Sociology at Marygrove College.
Personally, I am divorced and have no children. I currently reside in Detroit with my older sister. Aside from my love of reading and writing, I also love music, movies and church so I can most often be found doing something associated with one of the above.
Anything else? Just ask!
