I am a high school English teacher. I'm married and have 3 children. I love to read....and I usually judge a book by its cover! 9 times out of 10 if I love the cover, I will love the book. I have found so many great reads by looking at everyone's "top 10 list"
I'm addicted to Shelfari....if I could just get off of here I could put a dent...more »

Still have not read the rest of Rick Bragg's books. Can't find copies in my city library. My next best bet is the county library or used book stores! Keep your fingers crossed!!

I sure will! It sounds marvelous. By the way you seem to have dropped off my friend list. Did I accidently purge you?

I was wondering if you ever got the chance to finish (or start for that matter) Prince of Frogtown. If so what did you think? I have it on my "to read" list, just haven't had a chance yet.

Have you read Enter Three Witches? It is an updated version of Macbeth. I checked it out of the library, because it looked interesting, but I am not too sure.

Hey Deb! I see that you are reading The Things They Carried. I read that last summer because it was on the Athens High reading list for 11th grade and I thought I might need to quiz CW on it. I'm glad I read it, but it was tough going for a while. Hope you are having a nice summer. Give Scott my best wishes at the new job.

Actually, yes. My husband and I have lived the commuting-marriage lifestyle for far too long. The position at BSC came up at just the right time - they hardly EVER have openings! We are in the process of unpacking right now: we are leasing a townhome in Birmingham until we can house-hunt or build. You don't REALLY know how many books you have until you have to carry them in boxes! Just because I moved doesn't mean I disappeared - Huntsvegas is only an hour and a half away!

You bet! Enjoy your stay - remember to bring jackets, because New Englanders have a saying, "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes!" The seacoast can go from blistering hot to foggy and cold in the blink of an eye.....windbreakers are a MUST!

    Happy travels - ENJOY!

    Good morning -

    Asolutely!

On the Seacoast (I'm assuming you're going to want to stay closer to Boston), Odiorme State Park in Rye (NH) is a great coastal stop w/history thrown in (http://www.nhstateparks.com/odiorne.html). Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth (NH) is fantastic and affordable (http://www.portsmouthnh.com/thingstodo/todoDetail.cfm?TodoID=1&CategoryID=4), as well as being across the street from Prescott Park (open air theatre and beautiful gardens) and really close to great restaurants.

If you're going waaay to the north, I can recommend going to the Flume, which is in the amazing Franconia Notch State Park (http://www.visitnh.gov/flume/index.html)

In Boston, check out Boston Beer Works, which has AWESOME food, even if you don't like beer(http://www.beerworks.net/html/locations_fenway.html). My fave is the Sour Cream and Chive French Fries! YUM! The Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum is amazing (http://www.gardnermuseum.org/) and walking the Freedom Trail will let you see most of Boston's "historic" area (http://www.thefreedomtrail.org/). We downloaded the tour to our iPods last summer, parked under the Common, and did the self-guided tour (my husband had never walked the trail) - don't bother spending the $$ - the selfguided is GREAT!

    Hope that helps!

When you guys go, take your teaching badges with you. You can get into most of the exhibits for free with your badge. I found that out the last day I was there. I could have saved sooooo much money!

Haven't had a chance to look for it yet. I did have my husband (raised in Shreveport) read Ava's Man. He was a reluctant at first, but found it totally enjoyable! I will probably try to find it this week. Let me know what you thought of it please.

I own it. It's in my classroom, so stop by. I read it last year and didn't notice until yesterday that it wasn't on my shelf.

Fantastic book! I was a little disappointed with the ending. I felt it needed just one more page; otherwise, it was great!

Those are two REALLY different books. Neither is very "uplifting." I'd read "Autobiography..." first, though, because it may be really interesting to your boys.

Tell No One is great. Harlen Coben is really good. I've enjoyed everything I've read by him.

Have you read Wild Swans by Jung Chang? I read it right before Ava's Man and found it quite good.
