"Science Fiction is best when it is more SCIENCE than FICTION..." - Narj 2005
I devour books like midnight snacks, and I'd rather be alone reading one than suffer through a stupid talk or watching dumb tv shows...
I listen to The Strokes, Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Interpol, Pink Floyd, Goldfinger, Bob Marley, and the list goes on... Graphic arts is my first love and second is writing stories + poems. Engineering is my first hate, but I guess the relationship is platonic and I'm sticking with it as for now...
my favorite quote from
Robert Fulghum:
"I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge
---that myth is more potent than history
---that dreams are more powerful than facts.
I believe that hope always triumphs over experience
---that laughter is the only cure for grief...
And I believe that love is stronger than death."Amen, Sir Robert...
Unlike the majority, I began collecting books after college. I was so tired of reading/studying academic books (Leithold, Beer & Johnston, De Garmo, La Putt, Anderson & Mikhail, Foote & Davis, Besavilla) that prompted me in my final year in college to borrow, hoard, and even photocopy some books in the main library that are out of my curriculum. Those are equally interesting books just the same.
My 10 Random Reading Facts10: Though not in a book format I missed reading
Bato Balani, Pambata, Funny Komiks, Ninja Komiks, and True Pinoy Combat Komiks 9: The first novel I bought with no reason but curiosity is
Lord of the Flies by William Golding8: The first non-fiction I bought out of curiousity is
A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking7: I don't use a bookmark when I read. I just
fold the corner page.
6: The first book I gave to somebody (who happens to be a very cool
chick) is
The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom5: There are only 3 books in my collection with duplicate copies. They are
Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut,
Coraline by Neil Gaiman, and
Dune by Frank Herbert.
4: Yes,
I highlight my books. Especially for non-fictions. I also write footnotes (in pencil) for the questionable/disputable lines.
3: I love the
smell of a mint book.
2: I like to
cover my books with plastics. I use substance 3 or 4, hard grade.
1: I
record my archive in
MS Excel -with categories, personal ratings, price & condition @ purchase, etc.
