I've seen I Am Legend and liked it, but I've heard the book is much better.

I didn't realize Stir Of Echoes was based on a book either. (I'm usually pretty good about these things! wow, I'm slacking!)

yeah, I'm very finicky about movies staying true to books. I don't like alterations. anyway, thanks. I'll add Relic to my shelf ; )

oh nice, I didn't know it was a series. it looked pretty interesting. (and yeah, I'm sure the movie didn't do the book any justice)

I'm not against Amazon at all. I'm just a big fan of B&N : )
it goes without saying that books are always the classic, preferred method of reading, especially when dealing with certain types of genres, stories, authors, etc. however, I do find that the Nook is very practical and alot easier to maneuver : )

I love it. I don't know much about the Kindle. my choice was basically just a Barnes & Noble vs Amazon thing I guess...the Nook just seemed cooler : )

    here is Dragonflight's plot:

HOW CAN ONE GIRL SAVE AN ENTIRE WORLD?

To the nobles who live in Benden Weyr, Lessa is nothing but a ragged kitchen girl. For most of her life she has survived by serving those who betrayed her father and took over his lands. Now the time has come for Lessa to shed her disguise—and take back her stolen birthright.

But everything changes when she meets a queen dragon. The bond they share will be deep and last forever. It will protect them when, for the first time in centuries, Lessa’s world is threatened by Thread, an evil substance that falls like rain and destroys everything it touches. Dragons and their Riders once protected the planet from Thread, but there are very few of them left these days. Now brave Lessa must risk her life, and the life of her beloved dragon, to save her beautiful world. . . .

Alright, so I started a thread in the group for you, to get some outside thought. I would say just pick up the first book she released: Dragonflight. Now keep in mind she wrote these books in the late 60's and 70's so her writing might not be to the likes of newer authors we're used to. I definitely enjoyed the series, but I started with Dragonsong, I am not really recommending you start with this one because the main character is a 14 yr old girl and I don't think her story is going to hook you into the series unlike that of F'lar and Lessa, though when you come around to it... it'll be a good read (i hope!).
