I work in hotels and have traveled around quite a bit. I enjoy mostly non fiction, but read some fiction as well. I try to catch all of the geeky history tours whenever I am in a new place.

In Weehawken, NJ - apparently there is a plaque where the duel took place but its off the beaten path a ways. I think the original monument showing the spot is now in the New York Historical Society in the Luce collection (I seem to remember seeing that there)- a very cool place to check out.

Ah! But the heroine in that story wins out! I love Hills Like White Elephants.

Just visiting since I was enjoying your banter with JF (your side of the banter, not his ..)
Have you read any Christopher Moore? I think you'd like him.
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff Christ's Childhood Pal is an all time favorite of mine.

St. Paul's is nice - you should also go down a few blocks to Trinity Church - both for how how old it is and for the gravesites of Alexander Hamilton and Robert Fulton. Actually - if you go there you're right on Wall St. so you can check out Washington's inaugural site among other great things.

Walking the Brooklyn Bridge is my favorite thing to do! I am a Brooklyn Bridge nut, David McCullough's book is one of my favorites. I usually park in Brooklyn and walk across and explore (I live on Long Island). The Seaport is also a beautiful place to be. You were pretty close to the Fraunces Tavern, where Washington gave his farewell speech after the Revolution, have you ever been there?

I'm actually going into the city on Thursday for business, but I'll be waay uptown at the Museum of the City of New York. I'm sure I'll have fun up there as well.

Thanks for the rec. I buy most of my books used, so that's great-I'll keep my eyes open. Tell me how your trip into the city went.

Yeah, Fight Club is a favorite. I've got a first edition on my shelf. I tried to read Choke, but wasn't quite in the mood for the macabre at the time. I have to be in a bit of a rebellious mood to read Pahlaniuk. I'm reading Lullaby right now, though. Not as shocking, but then again, perhaps it's not as good.
I heard that "Gotham" is a good book. I was in Manhattan last year and was floored by the life there.

    Hi
I just published my book about my life working on one of the largest cruise ships in the world.

    Find out more at: www.lulu.com/content/1082309

The book chronicles my adventures chasing after my dream job and takes you behind the scenes on a cruise ship. It is getting great reviews as people are laughing their way through the book.

    Cheers and Happy New Year
