I'm a Systems Developer/Administrator at Stanford University. I spend many nights and all my weekends helping out at a community center in Montara running events (usually for kids). I don't watch TV (except for the occasional sports event at Cameron's Pub), and thus I usually read for entertainment.

  • Shepherding a Child's Heart

If you have children or are thinking of having children, I highly recommend this book. We are called by God to raise our children to love and obey God by representing God's love and authority as parents. This book outlines why biblical parenting is the complete opposite of addressing only behavior instead of the heart motives of our children.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable story. Tracy Kidder reveals the engineering culture from the 70's (that extends into today) in this engaging non-fiction book.

    Christian, Set Yourself Free

This is a good starting place for an overview on spiritual warfare and deliverance.

Definitely not as good as Pearson/Berry's first installment, this book bogs down in the middle. This book suffers from being overly serious instead of depicting the light-hearted Peter Pan I think many of us envision. It is still an entertaining read, but not recommended for young children.

  • The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips and Advice for Dads-to-Be, Second Edition
    • Rated 4 stars

Some friends with children thought so highly of this book that they bought me a copy and mailed it to me from Montana. It is very readable and has been very helpful so far in understanding my wife during this "expecting" time. I strongly recommend this book to expecting fathers.

This is a great book on time management for anyone who is interrupted often. It is focused on Systems Administrators, but it has a wider application. I strongly recommend it!

  • Catch-22
    • Rated 3 stars

Catch-22 is completely hilarious at moments. Heller portrays the horrors of war as well as the fictional personal conflict, tension, absurdity, and debauchery of military life. I thought this book was very engaging, but it didn't strike me as the "modern classic" so many people describe it as.

I read this book as a kid and loved it... I haven't thought of it in ages, but when I saw it on a shelf, it all came flooding happily back...

I couldn't put this book down after I started it. My first Crichton book and I loved it. I spent the following week devouring all of Crichton's other books.
