I write books for every age, and I suppose I'm ADD of writers because I'm interested in everything. I write horse books, like Winnie the Horse Gentler series and Horse Files. But I have a new line of rhyming picture books, called Dandilion Rhyme (A Gaggle of Geese, The Blanket Show). I write funny, contemporary teen fiction, like CRAZY IN LOVE; but I like teen historical fiction, too--like EVA UNDERGROUND, which is pretty much me when I lived behind the Iron Curtain before the Wall came down. I have a middle grade fiction about storywriting, LARGER-THAN-LIFE LARA--plus picture books set in the Depression era. And I've even written some Scooby-Doo, Jetsons, Flintstones, and Yogi Bear books. And on occasion, I do write for grown-ups. I got my first rejection when I was 10. I won an essay contest to be batboy for the Kansas City A's (professional baseball team). When they found out "Dan" was actually "Dandi," a girl--they wouldn't let me be batboy! I wrote about it...and have been writing ever since, over 400 books worth.
I love my job!
