My favorite authors are Jodi Picolt, Chuck Palahniuk, and Stephenie Meyer! Jodi Picoult has more intense topics and makes more of an impact, Chuck is just very blunt and negatively honest, and Stephenie Meyer is more entertaining!

Jodi Picoult raises a lot of topics and questions that make you really think about your life and how you... more »

    Dancing,
Many readers are willing to share their opinion regardless of others' view of a book especially if they have already read it. Why did you think it was terrible? Peace. ~z

Screamo is good, as long as i know what they are saying, i liike their to be be power in the words, other then thbe stupid, normal stuff, and i don;t need someone screming in my ear, if i want that i'll ask one of sisters to do that for me. They'll do it with out complaint.
New Bands I've been listening to are Streetlight Manifesto, The Clash(old band, but new music to me), Bad religion, and Ben Folds Five.
Just started JOhnny Got His Gun (finally, after like 3 stops to the book store), Guns, Germs and Steel: The Fates of Human Socities, The World is Flat, and The essential Chomsky. I'm a geek.

Fish is my favorite "prison" book, mainly because it was so emotional. Waiting to die is another really good one. It details what life is like every day on Arizona's (I think) death row. Life without parole is also a good one. I suppose it depends on what you are looking for. These three are great with regard to every day prison life. If you become more interested in the criminal justice system itself, or in books about the death penalty, let me know b/c I can recommend a lot of good things.

The Ruins was great in my opinion. It is hard to describe b/c once you start talking about the plot, people get suspicious. ITs about a man eating plant that resides on top of a Mexican hill. Once you get past that idea, and get into the book, it was very creepy and suspenseful. There aren't chapters to the book. ITs sort of one long story. For me, a person who loves creepy or horror style books, it worked wonderfully. It is now a movie, but I haven't seen it yet. I am not sure if I will. Typically, movies distort the quality of the book. I admit that many have not cared for the Ruins. I highly recommend it though.

To be honest, I have stepped away from prisons and horror for a minute and picked up some historical fiction. I dont' know if you like that sort of thing, but I never really did. I picked up Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth and WOrld Without End recently, and they were the two best books I have read in a long, long time. I highly recommend them as well. You have to get past the fact that they are set in 12th and 13th century England, and against hte backdrop of building a cathedral. THose things never interested me in the slightest, but once you read 50 pages of pillars of the earth, you will not put it down.

I personally loved Fish. However, I must warn you that it is not for the squeemish. I glanced at your bookshelf and I didn't see anything similar on there. I am wondering why you are considering reading the book? I read a lot of books about prison, and prison life. For some reason, I am drawn to books that evoke a very dark emotional experience, i.e., books about prison, the holocaust, the plague, etc. This book deals with a young boy, who is gay, who is thrown into the Michigan adult prison system. I thought it was great, and a really sad, harsh story. It deals mostly with the brutal, and sexual, relationships he forms with other male prisoners. I just wanted to give you a heads up. I don't know you or what you like, but I like to warn people about that book b/c it is not the normal "prison life" style book. It is a bit more intense, emotional, and brutal. I definitely recommend it, and will continue to recommend it. I just like to give that caveat first.
