Born June 3, in Macon Georgia, I am the second of three girls. I grew in the rural town of Fort Valley, Georgia. Because Fort Valley is a small town, with only one high school in the county and one McDonalds, as a child I found very creative and troublesome ways to spend my endless spare time. Today I live in Atlanta Georgia and I enjoy scrap booking, and working out (especially yoga). I am a graduate of Albany State University where I obtained my Bachelors of Arts in English. Throughout my college career I volunteered at Morning Side Elementary school, an elementary school near the campus. I visited the school at least three times a week, and I enjoyed it but at that time I was not interested in a teaching career (in fact I resisted the idea). After graduation I worked at FOX 31 WFXL as a reported, and I loved every minute of it, but I realized I loved working with children more, so I decided to attend the University of Georgia, and pursue a career in education. When I told my family and friends I wanted to go back to school to become a teacher the all responded by saying something like, “I knew you wanted to be a teacher, I don’t know why you didn’t see it”. I’m from a long line of educators; my maternal great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and a host of aunts and uncles were/are all educators. Growing up I resisted the idea of having to read books and go to educational summer camps, but in the end I realized I was born to be an educator. After three years of teaching I’ve decided to become a Library Media Specialist, not because I love to read (which I’ve only recently began to do for pleasure), but because I want to help students find books they love so they want resist the idea of reading as I did for so many years. In addition, I want to serve as an instructional partner, assisting teachers with technology and creative ideas to improve lessons. Finally, research is an important aspect in education, but often students don’t understand how to find information and that the internet has much more to offer than Google, GALILEO for example is a wonderful resource but many students are unaware of its capabilities. I want to teach research skills. I am working on Library Media Certification at Georgia State University. I utilize this site because I want to share extension ideas with teachers and have book club conversations with others.
