**Please note: I am not the most active member of Shelfari these days, but I still love it! I decided to go back to school (a full-time job, two young children, a houseful of cats, occasional karaoke, and my volunteer work with a feral cat organization were just not enough--ha ha!) and I am taking a class this fall at Illinois State. I am so excited. I am on the path to getting my Masters in Literature. I am not sure where this path will lead me, but I am going somewhere. In the last four years, I have been on a reading whirlwind. I have read some awesome books--"She's Come Undone," "Bee Season," "The God of Small Things," "The Book of Ruth," "The Namesake," "The Space Between Us," and "The Poisonwood Bible" pop to mind. Some of the multitude of authors I admire include Barbara Kingsolver, Chris Bohjalian, Alice Walker, John Steinbeck, Jane Hamilton, Myla Goldberg, Wally Lamb, Jhumpa Lahiri, and, yes, J.K. Rowling.
I am happily and luckily married to Eric, and we are entertained and challenged daily by our seven-year-old, Hayley, and our four-year-old, Tony. I love reading to our kids. Bedtime is a little flexible in our house, mainly because Mom reads story after story after story after story after story after story....
I work at a little newspaper, selling ads and singing songs with my crazy co-workers. (Update: right now I am in the process of going back to school, baby!) Some random things I love: diet Dr. Pepper, cats, muck sandals, nursing homes, the Beatles, the Spanish language, the ocean, newspapers, sunshine, Ron Santo (I am a type 1 diabetic), Dear Abby, vegetarian Indian food, and Austin, Texas. Some random things I support: library service for all, low-cost spay/neuter and trap-neuter-return, and breastfeeding.
In 2007, I had the opportunity to be in both a Jewish literature and a Nigerian literature discussion group, and I loved them both. I have a BA in English and Philosophy. When I was in college I was too busy helping feral cats and fighting depression to really and thoroughly enjoy school, and man, do I wish I was in college now. (Update: hey, wait, I am again! Woo hoo!) Reading keeps me learning.
It's 2009, and I have stacks of more books awaiting me.
