Based on a true event regarding a New England town in the 1850's divided between the "Yankees" and the Irish, with much prejudice and hatred, climaxing in a breathtaking event.

The ultimate in cozy mysteries! Lots of wonderful mysteries, none gruesome! One of the very best in the entire series!

  • The Politics of Jesus : Rediscovering the True Revolutionary Nature of Jesus' Teachings and How They Have Been Corrupted

The title of this book, in full, is "The Politics of Jesus: Rediscovering the True Revolutionary Nature of Jesus’ Teachings and How They Have Been Corrupted". This should tell you at the outset that this book is not for everyone. This book takes a fresh look to Jesus’ life and ministry and how it relates to today’s politics in America.

The book carries you through the history of his nation and his people that shaped him, how he became “meek and mild”, what he *really* taught and who his anger was directed at (and why the political and religious leaders of his time and place feared and hated him), and how this relates to the politics of the United States, past and present. The author finally concludes in telling us how we can get our nation back on the right track.

It helps if you are a Christian, reading this, but you don’t have to be. It also would’ve been better if I had done this review earlier than just two weeks before the U.S.’s 2008 Presidential Election. This book was published in 2006, and it reflects the mindset of that time. We are on the cusp of something else, possibly on the brink of something new, right now.

This book is a very good book, although very meaty and not an easy read. My only complaint is that the author has the habit of telling you things in triplicate, making *sure* you understand what he’s saying. Other than that, *good stuff* and highly recommended!

DH and I started listening to the audiobook this evening. It is WONDERFUL! Barack Obama is a great writer and a very good reader. He has a wry, understated sense of humour and a deep love of this country. He understands how we got to where we are and (I'm sure we'll find out as we go along) has a good idea of how we can get ourselves beyond the fix we're in to a better place for ALL of us. I wish this book were required reading/listening for ALL political analysts, pundits, editorialists, and talk-show hosts. They do not "get" where Senator Obama is coming from. And that's because they don't "get" where the American people are coming from. They think they speak for us, but they don't. Senator Obama does. He really understands. We really truly need him as our next President.
