I have more books than I have physical shelf space for. It's nice to organize them here. I have 2 children and 4 dogs and a wonderful husband. Topics I really enjoy are travel, Disney, World's Fairs, Classic Fiction, and various non-fiction topics that help my life. I'm happy to have a book worm outlet that I can share with others like me.

Yes, isn't it amazing how far we've come (n getting books) since the book mobile? Still, nothing beats hiding away in a cozy place with a good book.

Because you are a Shelfari friend, I thought I'd pass on to you a quiz I'm using to promote my new book, the 2nd in the HowToDoItFrugally Series of books for writers after the award-winning The Frugal Book Promoter.

The Frugal Editor is a must for writers and includes lots of good stuff important for any writer to know. It is, ta da! The Frugal Editor: Put Your Best Book Forward to Avoid Humiliation and Ensure Success.

Check Your Sell-Your-Book Expertise with Carolyn's Quiz

Every writer should know the answer to these or know how to find out :

    1. What is the rule posted by most agents and publishers I can break in order to sell my book faster?
    2. How can a style sheet help me edit my book or work better with my editor?
    3. Why do I need to know about indexing?
    4. How can I corral Word's Spell Checker to help rather than hinder my editing process?
    5. Why is editing important to getting a publisher or an agent when my publisher's editor will help me with that anyway?
    6. Why should I rarely send out a cover letter rather than a query letter?
    7. Why should I avoid using italics for internal dialogue? How do you avoid using them for internal dialogue?
    8. What perfectly natural and grammar-perfect thing should I avoid telling an agent?
    9. How can I turn adverbs that slow my narrative into metaphors?
    10. How can I purge my copy of passive constructions using a computer?
    11. How can code words in my document help avoid humiliation?
    12. How do I avoid superfluous quotation marks that annoy agents and editors?

If you don't know the answers to most every one of these 12 questions without peeking you are sure to benefit from the newly released

The Frugal Editor: Put Your Best Book Forward to Avoid Humiliation and Ensure Success
    available now on Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0978515870/

No worries. I'm glad you stopped in!

I look forward to hearing what you think of the book. Lately, I've been feeling pretty similar about work and reading. Of course, I am reading a lot at the moment for work, but it's the slow kind of reading for editing purposes of pieces I am very familiar with. Luckily, they're all very good pieces. But we just opened a new competition, so fresh stories and poems are coming in to be read. I'll be on to join in the new reading very soon!

    Talk to you later.

Hey I was browsing the reading writers group and I saw your info. My whole family lives in the Woodlands and I grew up there. We were there when there was still trees and deer everywhere. But it is still a great place to live. I miss the cool weather compared to San Antonio.

Hi Crystalcat -- thanks for the friend invite! We have quite a few books in common, I see. What are you reading right now? I'm about halfway through "The Omnivore's Dilemma", "The Loved Dog", and "Tender at the Bone" (a memoir by Ruth Reichl, which my book club is doing this month -- it's excellent!).

    Welcome to Shelfari!

    Hi,
Yes, my journal was written by hand as I traveled the length and breadth of Brazil. Except for the Amazon, I did most of the trip by bus! Some entries were made as we tore along dirt roads and detours making for a spidery scrawl!

Probably what got me into writing all 750,000 word by long hand! By contrast, as you can see on the website, all very neat and precise.

    Best, Errol

Hi, Thanks for joining my Friends.

Since you're interested in Brazil, you'll enjoy the private journal I kept on my 20,000 mile journey through the country.

You'll find it on my website www.erroluys.com. Go to "Brazil: The Making of a Novel" and see the section THE JOURNEY.

    Best, Errol
