Invitation

If you are a dreamer, come in,
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer…
If you’re a pretender, come sit by my fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
Come in!
Comein!!

The Walking Dead has passed me by. I'll look out for repeats on FX or Channel 5 (the 2 channels who show it here).

    Glee? Really?

The US version of Being Human is a very different beast to the UK version. Series 4 starts here on Sunday night.

I've been on my usual New Year non-fiction kick so far, as I mostly get non-fiction books for Xmas. Curiously they are all books by stand up comedians:-

Dara O’Briain - Tickling the English - the story of a stand up tour of the UK, mixed with observations on England and the English, from an Irishman
Mark Steel - Vive La Revolution - the story of the French Revolution, told by a stand up comedian
Marcus Brigstocke - God Collar - a search for religion
Arthur Smith - My Name is Daphne Fairfax - very interesting autobiography, from a man who has definitely lived

Still waiting for winter here. We've probably had about a week of freezing temperatures in the last 6-8 weeks. This time last year we were in the grip of a deep freeze. Still time for it to hit us though...

Yay Vegas! I was secretly hoping our friends would be going back for their anniversary, but they're not, so no Vegas this year. Plenty of memories to tide me over though.

If you do the Skyjump you need someone to video it or buy the official one, because it's all over very quickly! And you can't go on the Sahara ride any more as the Sahara is no more...

Your WiiFit story is very familiar - many people are using them to watch TV and films instead of jumping around like loons.

You may not miss Facebook but Facebook misses you...

So what have you been reading in between watching TV?

Having not heard from you for half a year, I wondered if you'd cut yourself off from the internet completely...

Thankfully you are still online occasionally! Was it worth leaving the fun and games of Facebook for TV?

I made it to 85 books last year, which was also disappointing as I was looking for 100 again. Up and running with 5 so far this year.

Totally agree with you on Patterson, I only read them now if they're really cheap. I stayed away for a while, but got lured back in again by a few bargains. Helpful for boosting the numbers though as they are usually quick reads...

    The Informers was truly awful.

Anyway, as I'm here, better update my shelf I suppose! How's 2012 going for you?

Hey, I'm more active on goodreads now. Have you been on that site? I loved that Laurie Notaro book you're reading. I wanted to read Unthinkable too. Dragon Tattoo was great. The movie was too. I'm on the second book now (The Girl Who Played with Fire). Come over to Good reads if you're not already. But I am keeping my Shelfari too because I like it.

    Long time no talk!

Following is the new name for friends. Instead of making friend requests you now follow people, and they can follow you back.

Summer is going great but it's whizzing by! So much to tell I'm sure, but not enough time right now. Hope your exile from FB has been worthwhile...

Yes, the Elvis wedding was as awesome as it looked. We had such a great laugh, it was so much fun. The Elvis was very good, but even he was cracking up at various points.

There were indeed tater tots at the Bellagio - part of the breakfast buffet. Just had to be done!

It was my first trip to the US, and a slightly bizarre introduction perhaps, but there will be many more!

E-mail with links coming soon, been so busy since getting back!

I'll send you an e-mail with links to my Facebook albums. There are only 21 of them! Only took 1000 photos (not all uploaded of course!)

In the meantime, here's the official wedding video, which was the main reason for going, to see Pete & Jo get married:-

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHF4GsCry80

I'm on the far left hand side for most of it, along with my alarmingly receeding hair. I thought I had more left, but the video suggests otherwise!

The timing was perfect - Vegas was pleasant and Death Valley equally so. There was even snow on the mountain passes connecting NV and CA. Don't see snow in the desert all that often!

RV rental was great, and we bought all we needed for about $50 - ended up taking it home due to Virgin Atlantic's generous baggage allowance.

Visited nearly all the casinos, and didn't miss the Bellagio - stayed there on the first night!

    I'm back!

Las Vegas was great fun - it's the maddest city on this whole planet by far. It's not somewhere you visit, it's somewhere you experience!

Death Valley was excellent too - really amazing scenery, and so much natural beauty too. A great contrast with the man-made fakery of Vegas!

I'll tell you more about it when I've had a chance to collect my thoughts!
