Hey Joel -- this looks like fun. Thanks for thinking of me. I strongly recommend all three of them (Riley, Bujold, Leon). And I'll check out your recommendation.

When i described Neil Stephenson's Quicksilver as nerdtastic and neglected to comment on the other three it is because the one comment is really intended for the trilogy as a whole; Each book could easily generate a novella of commentary, as rife with complex character, plot and concept elements as they are.

what have you gotten yourself into? i take no responsibility.
personally, i use the 'wish list' for things i want to read. also 'i wish' i had this book and 'i wish' i had the time to read this book. it helps those of us who are cognitively challenged and cannot remember what they wanted to read.

The first book of his I read was Shame. Fairly short (for him at least) and not too 'magical realism-ish.' Midnight's Children is my favorite. For me, I need to be in the right mood to read him as he is fairly fantastical at times. Let me know what you think.

Now as you build your shelf, then I can use it as my 'to read' list. It's so fun to see what everyone is reading.
