Check out the best books I've read lately: http://crunchygods.blogspot.com/
I've read all the books on my "Read" shelf, and I plan to read all the books on my "Plan to Read" shelf, if I live long enough! I love fiction that expresses the overwhelming beauty and sadness of the world, and if it makes me laugh out loud, that's a bonus. I like... more »

I quite liked it. It's not "deep" but it gave a very interesting perspective on FLW's life and efforts and attitude. I had the chance to visit Spring Green once, and I didn't take it -- I regret it now. I don't agree with the comments I've seen about how bad a person the woman was. It made me want to read a little more about FLW -- maybe find a more official biography.

So .... I'd read it if I were you -- it won't take long.

    Hi Joel B,
A friend and I just recently started a new group which is called 'Just For Atheists'. I saw that you joined the other atheist group and wondered if you would like to join ours. Our group is about voicing our opinions without people shoving their religous views down our throats and trying to covert us. We can talk about anything at all.
Hope to see you join us soon,
    Justin

Hi Joel. I've been looking for Eyes of Crow ever since you suggested it, and finally resorted to ordering it, along with #2. So I'll get back to you in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, congrats on your brush with stardom!

Hey Joel! I noticed that you asked me if you should read the latest Lydia Millet. Truth is that I can't say for sure yet since I'm just past page 60. It *is* pretty interesting so far but Millet hasn't laid all her cards on the table yet. And this is my first Millet novel.

In regard to Headlong, I thought it was good but I liked Spies better. At any rate, glad to hear you've got a copy to read.

The Bruce McCall books sound like fun. Also, Nights on Air sounds intriguing.

Hi Joel, I own Quicksilver from the Baroque trilogy, but I haven't started reading it yet. Snow Crash is high on my list. It sounds wild, and given Stephenson's style, highly imaginative.

I'm still writing. I'm on my final revision of my novel which I just had Bill Henderson edit this last summer. I've really enjoyed the process, but I'm looking forward to moving on to the next book. Unfortunately, the only ideas I can come up with for future books are Sci-Fi, which means I may have difficulty getting this one published (well, I guess that's a given these days).

    Toodles!

Hi Joel, this looks fun. Repairman Jack is sort of just a guy, but he's got a destiny that we're not sure of yet. I was kind of surprised - the first one starts off as a more or less straight mystery and then suddenly there's fantasy going on. You might like them

    Hey Joel,

Thanks for inviting me. I'm excited to find a new place to waste time when I should be writing ;-)

I loved "Cryptonomicon". It was mind-blowingly fabulous. Of course, I secretly adore dense sci-fi, though I try to pretend to be literary and all (hehehe). Have you read "American Gods" by Neil Gaimon? It's far less dense, but equally delightful. He takes the history of human god-myths and turns them into a great contemporary story. It's well crafted and often tongue-in-cheek.

I see you also read "The Road". What did you think of it?
