I am a 30 something LPN, and I LOVE animals. I have a parrot, a catahoula cur, an iguana, 5 ferrets, a ball python, 2 guinea pigs, and a leopard gecko.

I love the water. I could park it next to the water or in the water and read all day. I could seriously live in a boat or something as long as I had my animals.

If I could I would give this 2.5 stars. I didn't dislike it but I wouldn't say I liked it. I was really disappointed. The majority of this book was spent telling stories of the past, some having little to do with the current story going on. Also there were things constantly talked about that COULD happen if this or that happened, which I found extremely boring and irrelevant. Some of those things were partially relevent but did he need to spend 2-3 pages talking about something that is not actually happening in the book? I did enjoy the PRESENT storyline going on but it was a very small portion of the book. I wish the author would have spent more time developing what was happening in the present.

This is my second time to read this book. It's amazing how much we are like sheep and how God is like the good shepherd. It's no wonder why He references this fact in the Bible so much.

I remember reading this as a kid several times and really loving it. I used to imagine I had a place in the woods like this.

I was really disappointed in this book as I like many of the authors. None of the stories really touched me or hit home. I didn't connect with the book at all.

After I got into the book a little ways there was an awful lot of crying. Seems like every other chapter either Kahlan or Richard was crying or tearing up. I don't mind some emotion but geesh I like my heroes to have a little more backbone. And there was a tad bit more violence towards the end than I like, but other than that it was a really great book! I look forward to reading the next one in the series and also watching the TV series that was based on this book.

This book had me thoroughly disgusted. When I first read how she swatted at the ferret with her book, I was really peeved. I let it slide because she stated she would never hurt him and it was a game she played. Then on further in the book she talks about how the turtle embarrassed her in front of her friends because it was munching on a stinky gym sock. She couldn't pry the sock from the turtle so she hurled the sock and turtle across the room. I quit reading after that. VERY BAD EXAMPLE FOR HOW CHILDREN SHOULD TREAT ANIMALS. TOTALLY APPALLED AT THIS BOOK!

I liked that this was kind of based on a true story. I wondered that the whole time I was reading because there are real pictures in the book. At the end in the author's note, she confirmed it was based on a real person but her character was different. The book was based around the Niagra Falls, but it seemed that is all the book was about...the falls, people dying in the river, stunt people on the river, and the struggle with the power company taking water from the river. There was some real moments in the story with the characters and a little bit of love thrown in, but the book could have used some more of that as opposed to hearing about all the other so much. An ok read but not something I would say is a must read.

I used to be really afraid of bats. I saw a show once where this man was just standing amongst swarming bats. I couldn't believe it! I sought out this book to find out all I could about bats. This book was really good and gave me a new found appreciation for who bats really are.
