I am a voracious reader by anyone's description and have been the moment I became literate. I was the only kid I ever met who swore off sleep for most of the night to stay up and read. My father actually use to punish me when I did that by taking away my books (which he notes as one of the 'happier problems' he had with me). I always feel a sense of peace when going into a really good library or bookstore and feel like a part of me is missing since I can't seem to find a decent library in Queens. (If you know of one PLEASE tell me!!)
From the time I was seven I said I would be an English teacher and no one was surprised when that's exactly what I completed my degree in. I have taught in middle school (an exhausting but overall enriching experience which rekindled my love for YA literature) but currently teach high school (11th grade and AP literature) at an amazing school that has empowered me to teach what I want. I constantly try to connect to my faculty and students through books and give out recommendations the way most doctors give prescriptions.
As of late I have been reading a lot of historical fiction which has always been perhaps my favorite genre. I read in almost every fictional genre such as fantasy, sci-fi, drama and even the occasional horror or mystery. My recent goal is to read the books that have won the pulitzer prize as well as any notworthy contemporary author. However, the classics have a true place in my heart and I've read a ton of them and will continue to go back to them year after year.
