“I cannot believe that John Thorpe! When he excused Catherine from her walk with Miss Tilney against her own wishes - I wanted to kick him! I was SO glad she stuck to her ground and kept her date! YAY - I love it when books show a strong woman! I also thought is was an interesting point made that when Catherine said she disliked history it was in part due to the lack of women in the books. How sad, it is still very much like that!!! A sign of the times, "A woman especially, if she have the misfortune of knowing anything, should conceal it as well as she can." Ouch. Mr. Tilney once states, "The mere habit of learning to love is the thing." and then later finding out that he didn't begin in love with Catherine, that he had basically learned to love her, foreshadowing? foretelling? good line anyway. Then the end - what a great line for all of parents, on whether the author recommended "parental tyranny" or not - ha! ”
