“I've heard such great things about David Foster Wallace, and I've seen videos of him and I must say he seemed to me like a very intelligent human being, conscious of reality and of the media. This collection, contrary to what I have come to expect of him, was extremely tedious and predictable. Most of the eventual conclusions went almost nowhere; descriptions of events and characters were extremely banal and lackluster. He makes the familiar seems strange and removes everything from which I might find fascinating. The title story is an interesting piece that quite obviously criticizes Bret Easton Ellis and his writing style (and I do so much applaud Mr. Wallace for that), but the rest of the stories were insipid and interminable. ”
