I am from southwest, La. I have a BA from Northwestern State University (in Natchitoches, La) and an MMC from the University of Florida, both in communications with a concentration in public relations. I spent a summer in Zambia (that's in Africa, I get that question a lot) working with Project Concern International creating written materials...more »

I think the reason I've stayed away from Pratchett is cuz there are soooo many of them...
can you tell me which set of characters are your fave and what's the first book in that set? also which is your fave in that set? I HAVE to start from vol 1, I can't just jump books even though some of them can be read as stand alone (if that makes sense) - I'm a bit OCD that way.

I didn't read David Eddings for a while too, even tho my friend in high school recommended it but I stayed away like the plague because there were so many raves about him but one day I read the Tamuli series and I completely enjoyed the humor that I pretty much read the rest of his books, lol.

    Hi there,
I noticed you gave higher rating to beloved than I did...
I think because I read the Color Purple and Beloved one after the other that I wasn't too impressed with it? It's the same sort of genre and I've never really read these stuff before (I usually stick to fantasy or crime but I wanted to try other stuff too which is why we're in PBT really! ;)). I've decided that it's really not my cup o' tea. Thanks for your recommendation for 'their eyes were watching god' but I think I might give this genre a rest for now. It's kinda depressing :p

I'm struggling through the Historian at the moment (I see you were disappointed - it has interesting premise for a story but I'm slowly becoming deflated, I'm almost halfway through).

Do read 'The Time Traveller's Wife'! I think that's my favorite book for 2008.

I guess there's something you have to realize about a cruise. Something I like about it is that you get to see so many different places (and only unpack once!), BUT you are only in each place for a short time. Scotland/Ireland was beautiful! I LOVE castles, so it was very cool to get to see so many!

The original itinerary I had as my first choice actually only had the one port in the US and that was NJ - where we would leave from and come back to. Every place else was in Canada (but all places I hadn't been before), so I need to look closer at what's going on there.

Other places I'd like to try are a Panama Canal cruise, and a few other places in Northern Europe, but I had Canada/NE as my first choice because it should be a little less pricey. I do need to double check the itineraries again, though.

Something else I like about a cruise - I feel safer. I haven't travelled much, so especially if I'm by myself a lot, I feel safer. To Alaska, my friend and I did spend most of our time together (though we both agreed we didn't have to - if there was something one of us wanted to do, but not the other, it wasn't an issue), but on the Scotland/Ireland one, I was with two friends who are married. We also seemed to be interested in doing more different things, so I was by myself a lot more on that one. Now, that's not to say that things can't happen on cruises, but I still feel safer.

It's kind of funny. I had read that a lot of cats don't like it and will just lie down and not move when you put the harness on. Angel did flop over a couple times, but then would get up and - crouching while he walked! - walk slowly around, looking like he was hoping it would fall off or something.

They say to let them wander around the house with it till they get used to it, then to attach the leash and let them drag that around for a bit to get used to it.

I decided after maybe 5 minutes to try taking Angel outside - even if he's not used to it and is still walking and crouching - thinking maybe he'd be so happy to be outside, he'd sort of forget about the harness and leash. He did o.k. He did walk around more, rather than flopping onto his side, but he was often crouching while he walked still. I am a bit concerned that he'll want outside more now, though! Initially I thought if I took him out for a short time each day, he'd sort of get it out of his system and not be at the door wanting out all the time, but now I'm worried he might want out more...

I don't think I could leave a kitty outside if I considered it mine. But, I know - it's harder for you living with your parents. Both my cats are indoor cats, though Angel wants to go outside (he used to be able to with his previous family). I just bought a leash and harness today to see if I can train him on it, but the harness seems really tight and I think I've got it as big as I can. Thinking about it, though, I guess it can't be loose either or he'll get out of it! Io's happy to stay inside. He's a bit too nervous/jumpy to really want to be outside.

Aaawww... I also prefer adults, actually. I find kittens have way too much energy for me! I think the first thing you should do is take him/her to a vet. They can also double check whether kitty has a microchip or tattoo, just in case...

How will your current kitty take having a new one around? Has yours been around other cats much?

I haven't done any tonight either (nor did I do any last night). Combination of figuring out the scoring, figuring out the shelfari changes, and stuff on tv (and I did skip one show last night that I usually watch, as well as Supernatural tonight - I will have to find it on the other channel tomorrow!) Crazy is right!! Hopefully now that we've done week 1 scoring, we'll have a better idea of everything to keep track of, and it will be easier next week...? Hopefully!?
