Oh, I'm reading about Dante's 9 circles of hell, and I sooo think you are right about the book paralleling that in some fashion. Limbo - not religious, Lust - porn star, Gluttony - all the cocaine, . . .so far that's the parallels I see . . .but I'm sure more are coming.
Oooh, that's a good insight on your part. I have not read Dante so am not so familiar with the details on that, but Dante is mentioned - - I think past where you are. I will read the Wikipedia entry. I find Marianne's stories to be a little distracting - - her "history" is fine, but when she tells these morality tales, not so sure. All in all though, it is an intriguing book so far.
Hi there! So nice to see you back! I really liked Palimpsest. My son and I both read it so it made for good discussion. I enjoy novels that make me think and this one did. I have the Orphan Tales books on my tbr, I just haven't gotten to them yet. You'll have to let me know how you enjoy Palimpsest and if it is better than the Orphan Tales or vice versa. Maybe that will jump start me to getting to them sooner. :)
Hi! I try to purge my groups at the end/beginning of each year as well, but I often end up keeping the busier groups because I usually enjoy them more! So, I'm not sure how much it really helps.
You're right - I loved the camaraderie when we played as Tome Taggers. Book Bingo was similar, because it was also a smaller group. The other group game I remember playing was for Last Tagger Standing. I didn't find it was quite the same because it was a larger group. For me, as an admin, I won't be able to play those games anymore, but I knew that when I accepted the shelving position.
Not sure if you saw the new game Anita just posted or not, but it's an individual game, so it won't quite be the same. It would help with your Trim the TBR, though, if you wanted to take a look and see what you think (unless you still think that might feel like pressure... but then, it might not, as it is an individual game).
I was the adm. for the 2011 Book Log group that you participated in. I made a similar group for 2012, but it is by invite only. Since you are not one of my Shelfari "friends," I could not invite you. If you'd like to join the 2012 group, you need to ask to be my "friend" so that I can invite you.
hey! Thought I'd let you know that the thread is up to sign up to choose the next author... Not sure if you'll have enough time to read, so I don't know if you wanted to sign up or not, but in case you do.... you get a chance again!
And happy birthday (again!). :-)
