I hope so! I LOVED The Handmaid's Tale and then HATED Oryx and Crake. I'm wanting to love another Atwood title! Thanks for the encouraging note. :-)

I don't know if I'll have a lot of time for it, but it looks like a fun group! I was thinking of trying a Maeve Binchy for the Ireland tag. I see you've read her. Do you have a favorite?

Nope, this is my first time and I'm loving it so far! My husband picked it up the other day and said "It's not like you to read religious books." So, I proceeded to tell him about Jesus putting the lizards in his mouth after his brother would smash them up (I had just got started). Imagine the look I got...

My oldest is Nikolas, Niko for short. My other two are Maksim and Dominik.

Not only do we have the same taste in books we have the same taste in names too. How funny. :)

Yes definitely - see if they appeal. The Stroud books are a trilogy (though he's written a fourth book in the same world I think, which I haven't read). Marillier's written a lot. I started with Daughter of the Forest, which is a retelling of the fairy tale The Wild Swans. Good stuff. I'd love to know what you think of the Dresden novels as they go along and if you agree with "them". Sounds like we felt the same way about the first one.

Very magical - Morgenstern totally won me over in the end with her lyric chapter where what's-his-name? talks to Alexander about stories and how important they are. What a spectacular manifesto.
And, um, yes Kushiel's Dart is brilliant. I'm so impressed by her world building, especially the religion she's constructed. Not that I would necessarily want to be a part of it, but it's refreshingly original (when most fantasy religions are anything but). And I love the complexity of her love stories. Three-quarters of the way through the book, you still have no idea who's love story she's telling! And in truth she's telling quite a few and very few of them traditional. I can't wait to read the rest of the first trilogy at least.
Speaking of dark fantasy(ish), do you read Jonathan Lethem? Speaking of good female heroines, do you read Juliet Marillier? And speaking of morally complex fantasy (young adult in this case), have you read the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud?

Ok I just have to say thank you and I can't find your thread in 50 book challenge right now, so the love is going on your wall!! I've read two books on your recommendation in the past month or so: The Night Circus and Kushiel's Dart and absolutely loved both of them. Thank you!! I very well may have to go through your favorite books and buy any that aren't already MY favorites ;-)

    Nicole,

I noticed you said in the 50 Book Challenge group that you had a spreadsheet with all the books voted for which was 800ish lines long, and you were going to email to Lisa L. Could you please email to me also: teeitup46@cox.net. Guess it's OK to put my email here since I didn't see a way to post a PM since we are not "friends" officially.

    Thanks.

Ok, I'll probably leave it then. Thanks! Some people change their names a lot and I don't always follow who's who, but you were one I knew, so I thought I'd offer. :-)

Hi, Nicole. As you probably know, when shelving for PBT, we use the tag of the month (or game/challenge) and the person's name as tags. I just came across one today that has your review and tag under "coyotemusic". I wonder if you wanted me to change those to Nicole D if/when I come across/notice them? Or does it matter? Just thought I'd offer if you wanted me to. Let me know!

You know, Nicole, I have been faithfully reading what everyone views as their "Top 10 for 2011" and can't help but wonder:
Do you have it in you to start a list on our favorite 20 books of all time? If we were on THE ROAD, with our grocery cart....what 10 or so books would we take with us, for the dog to sit on when she gets tired? Just a thought. :o) Leslie

Thanks, Nicole. I will check it out. At this point in time, with no one to anchor me to fiction, I find myself slowly slipping back into a non-fiction abyss. I see a lot of books about presidents and wars in my future.
