Would you believe I'm STILL having problems logging in? I've been told others still have issues but it's going on a year!!!!!! This has caused me to become lazy about my shelf and my correspondence. Now that I'm in (your note prompted me to move) I'm trying to catch up. My shelf is officially a mess! Hope all is well with you. What're you reading these days?
Hello out there! Do hope you had a happy St. Patrick's day as well.. ; )I always have the problem with 'eyes being bigger than the stomach' when it comes to books.Usually check out a mess of books from the library and completely immerse every available moment in them.
Spoke too soon. I am still experiencing operating difficulties. It's maddening!
I'm back - I think. I'm trying to get adjusted to changes on this site. Looks like all is well(er). How are you liking Langston Hughes?
Still having MAJOR problems otherwise I'd be a better correspondent. Shelfari confirms a pocket of users are having the same issues and are working to fix it. In the interim, I've become quite lax as it takes about 10 minutes and 2 emails each time to sign in! With any luck this will be sorted out soon because I love visiting here!
Oh! That's right! You had a word banned not too long ago.
Thanks! You too - Happy 2009! I've been less active here lately as I am suddenly having "cookie" problems when signing in. They're looking into it but for the time being, it's a pain in the as$. I see they're banning words here now. Interesting.I see you're reading Heart of Darkness. I haven't read that in a VERY long time. How're you enjoying it? Is it your first time reading it?Hope your Christmas was fabulous!
Just finished Among Other Things I've Taken Up Smoking. It was good - 3 stars, but I'm not keeping it. It reminded me of She's Come Undone for some reason. It was definitely worth the time I spent reading it but I wasn't blown away. Thanks for the info on Vurt. I get really grossed out by incest stories. I'll be avoiding that one for sure.
......and your Vurt verdict? 4 stars, eh? I should check it out, yes?
Well, the impending holiday has me in a tizzy. I'm having difficulty concentrating. So much to do at work and at home! I keep picking up books and either deciding to read them at some point in the future (The Grift / Why the Tree Loves the Ax) or dismissing them altogether (Kiln People). If you get to it, let me know how it was - I wasn't diggin' it.I've most recently selected Among Other Things I've Taken Up Smoking and so far I am liking it (quite a bit) and it has my (almost full) attention.I love Christmas but I look forward to hunkering down in the house in January and February and reading until I my eyes roll back in my head.
Well, here's an update. You'll soon see that I've removed The Book of Lost Things from my list. I have to say I did not like it and won't be keeping it. It's now in my donation pile. I was disappointed because I thought it would be good. For a very brief time I really liked it. For the most part, I found it childish, gory and potentially nightmare inducing for the faint of heart. It didn't do it for me. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz with lots of guts and oozing, gooey and gunky bodily fluids.
Vurt looks interesting. Think I should look into it?The jury is still out on The Book of Lost Things. At the moment we're having a love/hate relationship.Saw that you added L. Hughes. Have you taken a peek and did you like what you saw?
Ummm.......I meant baring NOT bearing. Oops.
I'm not a big poetry-head myself but he is really talented. I can count my favorite poets on one hand and he'll be there once I'm done. It's rather raw and soul-bearing. There's a lot of anger and a lot of beauty. Check him out - he's worth the trip to the bookstore. What're you reading the most now?
I (usually) don't mind cursing or other foul stuff in my reading. Sometimes, nothing gets a point across better than some extremely colorful language. If it's truly disgusting to me, I can skip forward. In real life, however, I don't know that I could/would tolerate it all of the time.It was some time ago that I tried watching the movie. I do remember not making it through the opening credits. As I recall, there was a frenetic quality and chaotic feeling in the filming that made me believe I might have a seizure. I've not had a seizure before but I'm pretty sure I don't want to pursue one. I may try the book. We'll see. If I like the book, I may try the movie again.......perhaps while squinting.
Noticed you've finished Trainspotting. Good read or did the Scottish accent continue to haunt you? I'm not certain about whether or not I should check that one out.
Thanks for accepting the invite!I noticed you have Only Revolutions by Mark Danielewski on your shelf and have read it. I also have that but have not read it yet and haven't listed yet. I guess I will now since I'm holding it. I almost began reading it last year and wasn't sure if I was prepared to work that hard yet. Without giving anything away, was it worth it? I do like the way it's formatted - quite different. You and I have quite a few in common. Which book are you reading the most right now? Is Trainspotting good? I tried to watch the movie but was freaking out before the opening credits had finished!
