Best book I have read in years. Astonishingly skillful use of language and narrative technique.

I love cartoons and I like American history, but this book couldn't keep my attention.

This book was required reading for my Literature and Medicine course. The dialogue is cliche, the writing is pretty lame, the action is overwrought and melodramatic, BUT to be honest, I still enjoyed reading it. The best analogy would be cotton candy - there's nothing of substance or nutrition there, but it's still good - just wouldn't want a diet of nothing but this. A great summer read.

This is a great story with great illustrations. A wonderful way to introduce kids to opera.

As a fellow presidential trivia geek and big fan of Mo Rocca from "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me," I had very high hopes for this book. It was interesting but ultimately disappointing. Rocca incorporates a great deal of historic trivia, and there are some very funny lines. But the climactic scenes are utterly ridiculous - like a friend who gets too silly and it's not funny anymore. Rocca is clearly very bright and funny, but I can't help feel after reading this that there are WAY better books he could be writing with his smarts and wit.

This is a compelling read - the story of a lifelong friendship between two similar yet very different people. I was informed and, at times, moved. The writing was a bit repetitive in places, but overall a well-researched, thoughtfully compiled book.

I really enjoyed this book. It makes the outstanding presidents human, and their time less 'epic' and more real, which it was. You come to understand the trials and uncertainties the presidents faced, making them more human. I like Beschloss as a writer and historian very much.
