I am a Colorado native, and moved back to my hometown a couple of years ago after being an Air Force wife for 20 years. I have three grown children, daughter in law, and son-in-law, all of whom I adore. I' m owned by a dog, Ruby and two cats, Izzy the tuxedo cat, and Mona, the (fake) Russian Blue. This June my DH and I will celebrate 28... more »

Cute, little, predictable book for Christmas.

ROOM isn't really a book you enjoy. You may get engrossed in it. You may be disturbed by it. You may laugh at it. But the story of a kidnapped young woman and her 5 year old boy being kept captive in a backyard shed is compelling stuff. I finished the 321 pages in two days. Non put-downable.

Definitely a two or three hanky ending, but a marvelous tale of a totally dysfunctional family. I hated the characters as they were being introduced in the book, but their stories are important to the plot development. Well written, this book totally sucks you into the Bammarito family.

  • You Know When the Men Are Gone

A must read for NON military wives. Those of us who lived in base housing and suffered deployments will be none too surprised at the stories in this compilation.

  • Saving CeeCee Honeycutt

Lovely southern story ala Fannie Flagg or Dorthea Benton Frank. Young Cecelia Honeycutt finds herself in Savannah, Georgia living with her great-aunt after her mother's untimely death. CeeCee finds friends, family and her southern roots among some real Southern Belles!

  • Letters of a Woman Homesteader

A bit tedious in spots, based on letters written by a frontierwoman to her former employer. I like historical topics, so this was a nice read for me, but not my favorite.

  • Milrose Munce and the Den of Professional Help (Extended Edition)

Cute, Harry Potter-esque with a dark side. The premise of the story is the journey of teens who see and interact with the ghosts residing in their high school. Entertaining, with some pretty good humor, and a fun summer read.

I did not know this was a teen gay soft porn story until I downloaded it for my Kindle. I finished it because the story was fair, but beware of the content.

  • Home Girl: Building a Dream House on a Lawless Block
    • Rated 4 stars

Fun and insightful, this story chronicles a journalist's quest to finally settle down and buy a home. For reasons she never quite understands, she buys a brownstone on a drug dealer infested, dirty, lawless street in West Harlem, NY. The only white face in the neighborhood, Judith and her husband go through the trials of rehabbing an old house, as well as "breaking in" to their new environment.

While this had some interesting information and insight into tennis and Andre, the second half of the book became very repetitive. Chapter after chapter were synopsises of his matches and his "feelings." It began to wear after a bit, and truthfully, I felt he was whining. The revelation about his meth use puzzled me, because he seemed to be able to take it or leave it. This never happens with meth, which is severely addictive.
