I love books. I don't read much as I would like to, but I always have stacks of books waiting to be read. Sometimes I'm more of a collector than a reader! Most of the time I am reading 3 or 4 books simultaneously.
I work full-time but evenings and weekends I make art. I love making artist trading cards (ATCs), gluebooks and small shrines. Last year (2007) was my first as a mom with an empty nest -- it's been enjoyable to spend more time on projects. And books...
I particularly like really good character driven mysteries and those where forensic profiling or serious "mystery solving" is part of the plot. Often I'm drawn to stories that are set in the Victorian era, but I also like modern fiction. Not so much into descriptions of violent acts, blood & guts or gritty detectives...but if that stuff fits into the rest of the story-line that's for me!
I love art books -- particularly those on collage, art journals, doll making and assemblage. Cookbooks are another vice.
These days I read quite a bit of popular fiction -- and you'll see a lot of female authors on my shelf. I like fantasy more than strict science fiction, but read both. I rarely read what is termed "romance", but I do enjoy romantic story lines (more in the vein of "Wuthering Heights", "Jane Eyre" or "The Time Traveler's Wife".)
I'd enjoy getting recommendations if you've checked out my shelves and have something new to suggest!
I enjoy re-reading good books.
