Reading easily affords me two things I love the most: traveling and meeting new people.
I took up literature and creative writing at university so a big part of my life has been about reading. The rest of it has been wisely spent on dreaming.

When I'm not reading, I'm writing. When I'm not writing, I'm looking for something to...more »

hi, there's great book swapping happening at www.bookmooch.com. it has a forum here at shelfari, at http://www.shelfari.com/groups/23735/about.

bookmooch is a site that lets you give away the books you don't want anymore and get the books you Really Want to&from bookmooch members all over the world!

joining is free. you don't spend to get the books but you will have to pay postage to send internationally. with sea mail, you won't be damaged so much though (80/thin book, 150 up for heavier books).

    hope you join!

Thanks for responding to my "Should I read The Historian?". You made it sound pretty good. I heard it has a lot of info about Romania and I find that interesting. I love history but haven't read many vampire books. I've read a few Ann Rice books and like some and others not so much, but this book sounds like it has a bit of a variety in it so I think it'll be a good one. Thanks for responding!

I have a few things right now for you. I thought I could start with a small package and then if I can get some others to donate to help towards shipping I could go for a big box. I can get the books it looks like, but yes, the shipping is the issue. Do you get small packages from the US? Do you have an address I could send a small package to? I found a few books to start that are light weight so that would cut down on shipping costs. Let me know. I have it packaged in an a large envelope and can send it any time. I thought when I send some other packages I could ask the post office how much it would cost and then wait for an address from you. But I know you said that the postal service is unreliable there, so... just let me know.

It sounds great. Finding books hasn't been a problem. A bookstore here is willing to donate a couple boxes of books. I don't know how many are appropriate for you, but there are some childrens books. Now I'm going to try to find people who can help me with shipping. I am familiar with the authors you mentioned and will keep my eyes open for those books especially. I did get some YA books today but I have a friend who starts her first year of teaching and I promised her some of them. I'll have to sort those out to who would want/ need what the most.
I look forward to hearing from you.

I saw your post on campaign for literacy about your non profit and getting books etc. I would like to send you some books if shipping isn't TOO much (any idea how much?) . I would like to have any idea about what kind of books you could use. I can get some really inexpensive books through a second hand store. They have everything 50% off tomorrow so the books that are 50 cents are only 25 etc. They have a huge crate of romances for 10 cents which I didn't even look over cause I"m not a romance reader but if you could use any of those I could get some for practically free. Anyway, if you could send me a message stating what you could use I'll see what I can get for you. Campaign for literacy is wanting to help in the US and I think its important to help out some other places as well because we really have it so well here (in most cases) although many places need some real help by American standards.
I look forward to hearing from you. I see you haven't been on in a few days so if I don't hear from you I'll just get a bunch and what you can use I'll send and then I have some others I plan to send books to also.
    Happy reading.

Codex-crazy, I know exactly what you mean by the "geeky excitement" of reading theory. You might also enjoy the discussions at the fiction effect group--we'd love to have you!

Hey, codex-crazy! Great post on theory over at the English majors/minors group (I responded to it, but I don't think Shelfari lets you know that unless you're the original poster). It brought a big smile to my face when you talked about no longer talking to people with blank faces. Every time I've tried to explain postmodern theory or postmodernism to someone who is either not much into literature or has never heard of it, they look at me like I'm from another planet. Albeit, I do a poor job of putting my thoughts into words, but it helps to discuss these things with others who are excited, interested, and knowledgeable. -Marc
