I love to read, and I have a wide variety of genres I enjoy: historical, biographies, Christian, mysteries, and graphic novels are just a few. I review books on my blog at http://christysbookblog.blogspot.com as well as Amazon.com, Reviewer's Bookshelf on Midwest Book Review and the Oconto Falls and Lena Library blogs. I blog about my family and...more »

Hi clockstein. I saw you rated Do Hard Things very high. I was thinking about getting this for my 16 year old son, but saw a review on Amazon that the advice given was not always practical. Did you find that? Or was the advice down to earth?

I noticed today that you have read the recent book about Warren Jeffs. That is another book I've been thinking of reading, but I wondered if it is just a rehashing of the other recent books about the FLDS. What did you find that to be true at all?

    Have a great 4th!

Thanks for the news on new Ballad series books. It really would have been great if she would write six more books in the series. Oh well, at least we can look forward to two new ones.

Now I have plenty of space for more books. We had to replace the carpet in out basement, and we decided to get rid of almost everything, including books. We have already made pretty big donations of stuff to various charitys, and to our churchs rummage sale, and to family and friends, etc. Still have more to do, but the real "push" is over, for a few days at least!

How are things in the north? Not sure if any one in our family will get up there much any more this year, what with the lake poisened and now in August they are going to drain it to fix the dam. There's always next summer I guess.

Noticed you had The Sister by Poppy Adams on your wish list. Hope you enjoy it, I read it as an ARC from Barnes and Noble.

Hi from the flood threatened area! We've been lucky so far, but with 2+ inches of rain expected, I'm moving all the stuff I can from the basement!

I talked to my husband last night, and he said Chute Pond was poisoned the other day, and already the weeds/plants are dead, as are some of the fish they see floating past. He said it really smells foul. I don't think you better plan to go to Slippery Rock any time soon! It certainly is beautiful there.

I meant to ask, what are you reading? I tend to have a few books going at the same time. Right now I'm reading "Stolen Innocence" by Elissa Wall, "Out Stealing Horses" by Per Petterson, and a cozy "The Ghost and the Femme Fatale" by Alice Kimberly. Have you read any of these? I'll be glad to get back to my reading once the flood threat is gone!

Actually, our cottage is just down the road from you, kind of anyway. Our cottage is on Chute Pond (or Chute Lake as some people call it). I'm glad to hear it is nice up there this week because my husband and son are up there fishing this week. They need to get their fishing in because the DNR is going to poisen the lake in August or whenever it gets warm enough. They (DNR) says the poison will only kill the weeds, but I don't think we want to eat caught there one the poison is in!

What do you do at the school?

I agree, the Ballad novels are the best. The NASCAR ones are okay, but I could never get into the novels she wrote before the Ballad ones, such as The Windsor Knot (I think it was called), etc.

While I have moved out of Northeastern WI, my family still has a cottage up in Oconto Cty., and my parents still live in the Fox Valley area, so I get up your way quite often!

Do you live in Oconto or Oconto Falls?

Hi Clockstein, It appears we have some of the same taste in books, including Sharyn McCrumb, Victoria Thompson and, while not on my shelf, I have read the same Nancy Drew and Meg books as you have. I used to live in Green Bay, but now I'm outside of Milwaukee. Have you heard when Sharyn McCrumb is coming out with a new book? Bookaholic

I'm REALLY happy that you enjoyed "Twilight." You may have some surprises with "New Moon," that... OK no spoilers here. Enjoy!

    Hi clockstein,
You've read so many books! Whew. I couldn't tell from your shelf - but you stopped at just reading "Twilight." Were you tempted at all to read the next books? Maybe I just didn't see it on the list. Or if it isn't your thing, that's cool too. Just wondering,...

So glad you joined Guilty (Reading) Pleasures! I thought it was about time we had a place to talk about those books we love to hate the fact that we read and own. I think there's always room to expand our lowbrow reading lol.
