Braver in books than I am in life, but hidden depths...remain...hidden. I read like a banshee, Sci-Fi, PNR, Kinky sex and old-fashioned romance -

Exiled by Maya Banks: A disappointing 2.5
Sway by Lauren Dane: 4 stars and I can't wait for the subsequent books in this series (Delicious).

I went in to this book hesitantly, as some of the reviews seemed a bit tepid, but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was a delightfully nuanced story which deviated from the "whammo, you're my mate" thing that we see in so many books, in favor of a nicely nuanced story about two broken people who decide to consider a relationship, maybe love, and find that they have the capacity to care, to love, even if it looks a bit different than they expected. We, the reader, can see that they will absolutely be OK, but it's their cautious approach that sweetens the tale for me.

The story is told in the middle of intrigue and murder in Neha's court and again, I thought it was a great portrayal of complex characters that have layered stories of love and betrayal driving their actions. Characters from previous books are brought in, their stories integrated with with varying degrees of success, and Venom gets lots of good "air time", making me hope we'll hear more about him in the future.

This might my favorite book, second only to Angel's Blood. Give it a go-

2.5, really - whats the phrase? Sugar kink? Not a real Dom in sight.

As this series progresses, the characters get increasingly more interesting....which elevates this above the genre-I loved the internal struggles in both the lead characters, body image and ADD...coming to terms with changing behaviors without losing themselves trumps the action, which was well-written and surprising. I can't wait to see where Ms. Giordano goes next.

KA's run at PRN - I loved it....yes, Lucien is a jerk of a guy, but he's a vampire, so it's sort of expected. And, I had a hard time accepting Leah as 40, she was so immature, I just pretended she was in her 20's. It was interesting to see KA apply her slow-growth relationship rules to supernaturals, I quite enjoyed it. I'll look forward to the next 2 in the series.

Safewords: Davenport and Chiffon is the latest in the "Safewords" series by Candace Blevins and the second part of the story which began in Safewords: Davenport.

Candace Blevins writes books that are pretty much beyond my comfort zone in terms of BDSM activities - these books are not for the faint of heart, and each book ramped up my discomfort. That being said, I kept reading and enjoying them because her characters, and their relationships, fascinated me, even while their activities totally sqweed me out.

So- read the descriptions, know what to expect...then realize it's more than the words prepare you for...but there's love and truth in each of these stories and though I squirmed all the way through them, I'll be looking forward to the next one-

I thoroughly enjoyed this, loved that both Venetia and Gabriel were strong characters and in spite pf social norms, fought off the expected behaviors and treated each other with respect. The sex/romance was relatively tame, but satisfying, none the less. My understanding of this series, with it's unorthodox structure, will have me reading the next one pretty quickly, but just not in a must-read-now kind of fire.

This book grabbed me from the start and was a great introduction to Adrienne Giordano as an author, and to the series, Private Protectors.

It's been 12 years since Michael left Roxanne, with no explanation, and subsequently married a woman who is her polar opposite. Rox has gone on to a successful career in the family-owned newspaper, but is coping with her father's recent death and her increased responsibilities. Now, Michael has been accused of his ex-wife's murder and needs Roxanne's help to prove his innocence - and he needs her trust in order to have any chance to get back into her heart.

I loved the push me/pull you relationship between Michael Taylor and Roxanne Thorgesson - verbal, emotional and physical. Working together reveals both characters' strengths and vulnerabilities, something neither of them is too keen to share - especially when it involves a close look into Micheal's marriage and his wife's infidelities.

The murder mystery is well told and the re-establishment of the relationship between the two is developed in a manner that is both sweet AND hot. Both characters are leaders, but are capable of introspection and Michael as a alpha male is realistic and satisfying without being the overbearing male who would compromise Roxanne's strength.

I'll be reading Book 2, Man Law, son and will be recommending this series to my groups.
