I'm French Canadian and read mostly in English. Most of all, I love reading in the bathtub in the winter and in the pool in the summer.

I also listen to a lot of books on CDs on my iPod when I take walks, relax by the water, in bed and when I fly.

I never go anywhere without a book, a magazine or my iPod.

I also love... more »

    Claire,

That's wonderful about your paintings. You must be very good!! Send me a picture when you get a chance. Would love to see your favorite!

Your right about the thunderstorms. Every day. You have to plan events before
    the rain & thunder comes...

Your trip to Newport sounds exciting. Mansions and Festival, I would love to attend. Enjoy your trip and pick up a great item for yourself. I always try to bring something back from the areas we visit.

Hope you like the book. I thought it was good entertainment.

Have fun and write when you get back.

    Hi Claire,
I have really gotten behind on my shelfari pages lately. Have been out of town a lot both for work and pleasure. Weekends have been crammed. I have been reading a lot. Started a series by Dee Henderson about the lives of adults who were all in the same orphanage and adopted each other as a family. Nice Christian fiction. I am listening to The Help on MP3. The narrators are fabulous, and it is probably going to be the best book I have read this year. Certainly five stars. The story of maids who "wait on" whites in Jackson Ms in the 60's. I used to live in Jackson in the 80's so I find it especially interesting.

I haven't read the Tenth Gift yet. So many ones to get read!!

You sure do make me want to go up to the Northeast. Food and Wine Festival sounds like so much fun! We are going over to Jekyl Island next weekend with friends. It is a small quiet island off the coast of Georgia. Lots of biking and walking and, I hope, reading.

    Morning Claire,

I finshed The Tenth Gift and really enjoyed it. I loved the characters and the story line. I hope you like it as much as I did.

I helped my daughter Gina with her garage sale yesterday. (in 90 degree weather) We were outside by 6:30am. Started at 8 but people came early. She made over a $1000.00. Gina will have at least 2 more before she moves to her new home.
I came home, showered and did nothing but watch a marathon of NCIS shows the rest of the night.

Hope your well. Love to all.

    Hi Claire,

I just started the Tenth Gift last night. I will keep you posted on my progress.

Those lazy days of summer are wonderful. I love laying in the sun and then playing in the pool. We did that Monday at our daughters house. (cook out also)

It is stilll in the 90's here every day. It limits my activities outside. Must wait till late afternoon to do any gardening.

Keep in touch. Love hearing from you.

    Morning Claire,

Just wanted to tell you I received an early birthday gift from my best friend. It was the Kindle 2. I have fallen in love with it. Easy to learn and quick to receive books from Amazon. Bought one new novel and downloaded all the free classics. I will only use this for travel and waiting in doctors offices etc.
I am not sure if you have one, but it would be ideal for you too.

How has your summer been? Your vacation?

    Hi Claire,
I always enjoy hearing from you. It sounds as if you had another wonderful vacation. I have not been to Nantucket and it is definitely on my short list. Along with a trip to Quebec City after seeing your beautiful pictures. (My husband still talks about those!)

We had a wonderful trip to Hawaii and managed to dodge the Hurricaine/Tropical Storm. I have a friend here on Shelfari - Brianna - who lives on Oahu. She gave us great advice about a fun place to eat shrimp along the coast - from a shrimp truck. Also found us a beach with big sea turtles. Who knew that Shelfari would be a travel guide as well! Someday, I will be prodding you for help for your area's sites!!

I LOVED The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (what a name!) I see that a few people on Shelfari really panned it. Can't understand that. Of course, now I want to go to the channel islands as well!!!

I have been reading some easy mysteries - JD Robb, Fern Michaels. I like the strong women protaganists in these series. Did enjoy Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani. It is set in the Appalacian Mountains - a sweet story about a town pharmacist. One of those books that has a miminal story line but warm characters. It is the first of a series, so I think I will read more.

    Hi Claire,

Just got back Sat. night. Had one of the best trips. Loved the Grand Canyon & Hoover Dam. Vegas is always exciting, won gambling, saw the Jersey Boys show.
    It was terrific.

I am glad you had a great time in Maine. Sometimes those short trips are the best.

I also loved the Guernsey book. I loved the characters. While on vacation, I read almost 5 books. Pure heaven.....

Hope the rest of the summer is relaxing and fun for you and your family.
Which Donna Hay book did you get?

    Hola Claire,

Loved Prague, thought it was a bit seedy. Haven't had a chance to do Vienna yet.

I'll be in the Dominican Republic for a month this summer as part of a "social justice" tour. Here's my friend's link if you might want to join us one of these summers: www.friendsbeyondborders.net

    Hey Claire,

Any travel "hidden gems" you'd like to share? My best-kept secret is probably a small town in Switzerland called Lavertezzo - not sure of the spelling, I have a photo somewhere with the name on it.
