I'm French Canadian and read mostly in English. Most of all, I love reading in the bathtub in the winter and in the pool in the summer.

I also listen to a lot of books on CDs on my iPod when I take walks, relax by the water, in bed and when I fly.

I never go anywhere without a book, a magazine or my iPod.

    Claire,

I tried the recipe on page 301. I changed it around and added with the onion & garlic ,
one red, orange, yellow bell peppers. (cut in strips)added fresh basil too.
I put that in an covered baking dish , then saute the stewing beef. Added that
to the bakind dish and covered it with red wine. Into the oven for 1 3/4 hours
at 375. First hour I had it covered with lid, last 45 mins. un-covered.
Served it over rice. Made an Italian salad and served a crusty Italian bread. Superb!!

I will let you know how much money I win in Vegas!!!!!!

    Ciao,

    Claire,
I love David's cookbook. I just made last week one of his recipes (and added a few more ingredients) and my whole family LOVED it. I must get the name for you and send it to you. It was fabulous. I tape him everyday and use his cookbook as my guide. I turn the corners down and add notes etc.
I am so glad you looked it up. This will be one of my favorite cookbooks.

I will write when I get back from Vegas and fill you in on all my adventures!!!

    HI Claire,

Weather here has been so hot. And its only the beginning of June!!
Your trip to Nantucket sounds wonderful. What fun having your friends joining
you. How long will you be gone?

You mentioned Pope Joan. I really enjoyed that book. You should finish it.

We are all doing well. I have been keeping so busy. Had my friend fly in last week from VA. We went back to Sanibel Island for the day to doing some great shopping. We also went to the Wildlife Refuge, the movies to see Letters to Julia (which I loved), Barnes & Noble in Sarasota, Breakfast out every morning and dinner one night at a favorite restaurant. I cook the other evenings. We
    had a marvelous time.

Planning on my August Vegas trip. Can't wait. I will bring my Kindle. I have stored many books to read during that week. What a differences it will be not to take 6-8 books in my suitcase!!! Yeah!!
Also planning a trip to see my sisters in New Jersey in August also. Can't wait.
I have not been home in a few years.

Doing a lot of reading in the early hours and then once in bed. Never read during the day. Have finished 70 books since Janurary!!

Wish you well my friend. If you take a trip this way again, I will gladly meet you.
    Love, Carol

    Hello Claire,

It is good to hear from you. Glad you enjoyed The Help. I think it is one of the best books I have ever read.

We are in Naples, FL enjoying a long weekend with our friends in their beautiful condo that looks right onto the water. The weather has not been great, but yesterday was beautiful. I woke up early this AM and have enjoyed the sunrise and th peace on this Palm Sunday.

I do need to read the Postmistress. Let me know what you think. I am reading Shutter Island on my Kindle right now. It is a little dark for my taste, but I will get through it. Should have chosen something a little more carefree for my beach time!

I really enjoyed listening to Lucia, Lucia (author?). Story of a Italian woman in New York in the 50's who was ahead of her time in many ways. Excellent story. Highly recommend it. I am listening to the second book by the author named Very Valentine. Not as good.

I also brought a paperback book with me - Just Breathe by Susan Wiggs. Looked like a good beach read and I needed something to take around the salt and sand. (even though I saw a man with his Kindle wrapped in plastic - I'm not taking mine down there!) Anyway, it is kind of a chick lit book, but I think I have heard that she writes a good story. Kind of like Luann Rice. We'll see.

Thanks for keeping in touch. Hope your spring is wonderful!

    Hi Claire,

It was so nice hearing from you.

I can't believe your weather. But like you said, Great day to read.... And we love that. Weather has been in the 70's this week. I am sitting outside every other day for 30 mins. for my Florida tan. I ususally take a book but I end up just relaxing and laying back. :)

Don't you just love The Help? It was so good, one of the best I have read this year. I listened to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on CD. Fantastic. And I am currently finishing up the sequel The Girl who played with Fire. This author can really write a story and make it come alive. As soon as his next one comes out,
I will buy it. (I heard he passed away.) Check these out. I know you like a good mystery and this is one you won't believe.

I really hope you make it back to Florida. Would love to meet with you again.
Don't forget to read Duma Key. You will like it.

Have a friend coming in from Va. Beach in April. We'll spend some time together
and have a great time. My best friend is coming in May for 4 days. Can't wait.
I will be flying to New Jersey to see my sisters sometime soon. Haven't figured out exactly when. Also planning a trip to Va. and of course Vegas in August.

Right now I am trying to do yard work and need some landscaping. Always so much to do and never enough time. I want to do and see everything. And of course, I want to have fun and laugh till my sides hurt.

Take a book tomorrow when hubby is at the dentist. (which I'm sure you will)
    Take care of each other.

    Hugs,
    Carol

    Hi Claire,
I thought I answered your email. Forgive me.

Our holiday season was perfect. Meals, entertaining, family, friends, presents, wine, music was marvelous. It was one of those years that everything came together.
I am happy to hear your holiday was great too.

I am so excited to hear they are making a mini series on Pillars. I loved that book.
I have not started World without end yet. I just finished Under the Dome by King
and that was so heavy and big. I thought I would take a break before I started World.

Are you planning any trips this year? I am going to New Jersey to see my sisters and brother in March or April. I know August is Las Vegas but that is the only planning I have done so far. My desire is to go to Sanibel Island for 4 days. I will keep you posted.

    Hugs to you and hubby,
    Carol xoxo

    Hi Claire,
I am so glad to hear from you. I have been a "bad" Shelfari friend. I have been reading on here a bit, but haven't kept up with notes very well.

I got a Kindle too! Actually, it is a Christmas gift, but I couldn't wait, and tore into the package from Amazon as soon as it hit the front steps. (OK - I even tracked it as it was being shipped!) I downloaded a couple of versions of the Bible. Have already read Sense and Sensibility and am currently really enjoying reading Little Women again. I even pre-ordered Stephen King's new book - Under the Dome. It won't be released until Christmas Eve.

I think my favorite book of the year has to be the audio version of The Help. If you haven't read it, it is best on audio because the narrator is amazing. Of course, I lived in Jackson, MS, where it is set, so that made it especially wonderful.

I hope you are enjoying Florida. The weather is warm here in South GA today - but we are actually going to get down into the 30s tonight, so we get to have a fire!

    Claire,

That's wonderful about your paintings. You must be very good!! Send me a picture when you get a chance. Would love to see your favorite!

Your right about the thunderstorms. Every day. You have to plan events before
    the rain & thunder comes...

Your trip to Newport sounds exciting. Mansions and Festival, I would love to attend. Enjoy your trip and pick up a great item for yourself. I always try to bring something back from the areas we visit.

Hope you like the book. I thought it was good entertainment.

Have fun and write when you get back.

    Hi Claire,
I have really gotten behind on my shelfari pages lately. Have been out of town a lot both for work and pleasure. Weekends have been crammed. I have been reading a lot. Started a series by Dee Henderson about the lives of adults who were all in the same orphanage and adopted each other as a family. Nice Christian fiction. I am listening to The Help on MP3. The narrators are fabulous, and it is probably going to be the best book I have read this year. Certainly five stars. The story of maids who "wait on" whites in Jackson Ms in the 60's. I used to live in Jackson in the 80's so I find it especially interesting.

I haven't read the Tenth Gift yet. So many ones to get read!!

You sure do make me want to go up to the Northeast. Food and Wine Festival sounds like so much fun! We are going over to Jekyl Island next weekend with friends. It is a small quiet island off the coast of Georgia. Lots of biking and walking and, I hope, reading.
