Like many people on shelfari I am a bibliophile. Thanks to the Internet and bookstores that allow people to browse and read I do not feel the need to have all the heavy, dust collecting books in my possession. I know where I can get them if I need them. It is fun using shelfari as a way to remember books I... more »

Hi callie! Sorry so long in replying -- I've been traveling and not such a great correspondent. PLATO! Excellent! I started with the Meno, but there is so much to visit and revisit in those works. Aristotle's Ethics is a favorite of mine, too.

I've always wanted to read LeGuin, but never have. Now I know where to begin! Let's keep in touch (I'm off to bed -- recent bout with a cold has me lethargic!) Talk to you soon!! Fun!!

    Hey Callie
    how are you doing?
    I have a lil question.
My Olympus P&S, while in the night mode , always ends up having some blur. is a tripod mandatory for the shooting in night mode?

Yes, that was Rhoda Penmark, but she's been replaced. There's only so long one can go about in the cloak of a devil child. ;) I just saw a recent photo of Inger Nilsson, who played Pippi in the Swedish films--she hasn't changed a bit.

Yes, I'm a Shakespeare fan. I find the melancholy to my liking -- I'm distymic, you know. (That's a play on "Henry V" (I think), when King Henry says "I wear it for a memorable honor; for I am Welsh, you know.") See how erudite I am? I'm proud of me!
The English Lit classes I took really made me wonder: what has happened that writers since the 1700s can't make such let's face it stunning, miraculous words? People since those days have written many GREAT and beautiful things, but the degree of word intricacy and association since Keats/Shelley/Coleridge et al is not in evidence. I suppose Jorge Luis Borges comes close; but he wrote in Spanish, and the translations mean that I cannot be certain of his true cleverness. About him -- I DO know his plot lines, story-telling, imagination, ability to create fantasy worlds -- these are indeed worthy of any comparison.

Thanks for the invitation--we've quite a number of books in common. I have to ask, though: why algebra? I adored the quadratic equation back in the day, but the day is passed. Do you teach maths?

Hi callie, thanks for the descriptive note, Though my question about the DSLR , stil remains unanswered :D.
and its a wonderful way to mix a lighter work with an intense one to read , I should have tried this when i was going through auto da fe'
I have just started the melancholy whores , by garcia , and should finish it in another hour. garcia is great of course , but the person who has translated it , never let the essence fade away.wonderful work by both.
    warm regards

Hi Callie, thanks a lot for your notes. I noticed that quite a few of the books that we have in common are actually my favorites, including ones from Asimov and Clarke.
