I add books either as I read them or as my memory gets jogged and an "oh yeah, I read that already" pops to the forefront. Books read very recently tend to have the date they were read attached (but not always as I am quite lazy at times).
Given my choice, I'd rather read than watch TV or go to a movie. I once came into a small tax refund windfall, quit my job and stayed out reading until the money was all gone. : ) Good times.
I tend to run through authors and genres until I exhaust the easily identified good stuff, then move on to new ones. My star rating system is 5 stars for excellent, 4 stars for very good, 3 stars for average good, 2 stars for poor, and 1 star for gawd-awful. I don't put anything into the I own it category because I don't really care about owning books. I buy them when it is the only way I can read them and, except for a few hundred I keep on hand for various reasons, sell them to used bookstores or donate them to the library once I'm through with them.
Shelfari certainly has grown in great leaps and bounds during its brief life. Membership appears to be changing, too. (It cracks me up to see people with many tens of thousands of relatively recently published books listed under "I've read".) ;)
