Chris, I will have to try the House on Mango Street. I've heard of that one but had never given it much thought. I'm always looking for a new good book to read. ;) David says he's going to treat me to Fresh Cafe sometime this weekend since we get paid. And of course, I will have to have some chocolate with my meals. lol, I'll see ya' then.

    Chris,
I am delighted to have you as a friend. I LOVE Katie, too! You have a fascinating biom A beekeeper! My grandfather was a beekeeper! What kind of cafe do you own? I LOVE to eat!

What kind of artist are you? I build stained glass windows, boxes and other foiled projects. I also love to do mosaics which is probably where my greatest talent lies. I love to do stained glass on clear glass mosaics, especially tables. The effect is amazing.

What do you write? Are you published?

Regarding,"Their Eyes Were Watching God:" I read it in an advanced Lit class so I had the advantage of an excellent instructor and the input of other students. I did have a hard getting into it until we started discussing it. Spark notes might help give you a boost with it, there is also a movie based on the novel bit I haven't seen it.

"The Shack "I had no trouble reading. I needed to have the kidnapping resolved so I hung in there and I gleaned so much more from the book. I can understand why some might find it difficult. It is philosophical and presents a very different picture of God as we know Him, as well as having a pretty heavy psychological bent to it at times. There were parts I had a difficult time reading but I forced myself. It has a bit of a twist ending, a surprise ending actually.

Thanks for inviting me to be your friend. I am sure I will have many questions regarding your books also. I have been gone all weekend and just got home. Didn't read a word all weekend-whaa!

    Dear Chris,
Sorry for taking so long to reply but I am very busy since I am totally redecorating my home this summer ... it sounds we have things in common LOL.
Have are you doing? I hope your weekend in Door, Wisconsin was great and exhilarating.
It seems very compelling "The natural history of Senses". I need to catch up with my wish list... I want to read too many books, alas, and I wish I had more than 24 hours per day !
Oh, I'm glad that you're interested in Spain History and particularly about our Civil War in 1936-1939. There are a great deal of books about this subject, my favourite is "Los Cipreses creen en Dios" -"The Cypress Believe in God" by José María Gironella. I think you can find a copy translated into English. The second Top-list is "Réquiem por un campesion español" - "Requiem for a spanish pageant" by Ramón J. Sender (a short book but breathtaking).
Well, let me know what are you doing this weekend, ok?
    Big hugs,
    Elisabeth
PS: My daughter Teresa is looking forward to getting a copy of "Breaking Down" in Spanish ... till November she's reading the series of "VampPirates" (2nd-3rd book). What kind of books are your teen sons reading?

hey Chris, sorry it took me so long to get back to you. In answer to your question, no I have not read The Thief Lord yet. However, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to go to the reading club as our library director has not been very gracious about giving me hours. Any restrictions on my hours ends up costing me. I'm sorry about that.

    Hi Chris!
Many thanks for your lovely note. I have such problems sleeping these days, so I read a lot into the night. I've borrowed from my local library four books in english, one in french and one in spanish.
I've read a compelling book "The Brunete's Nurse" by Manuel Maristany about the spanish civil war. No, I haven't read "Atlas Shrugged" but it sounds great. I'll put it in my wish list.
Wow, six months of freedom ;-) for doing whatever you want ! Oh you have a Café ... how is it like? sort of Starbuck Coffee or Italian way? You know, I love coffee with cream and chocolate but my all-time favorite is Capuccino.
We had an awful week here with storms and strong gales but Monday started nice and sunny. Weather seems crazy this year in my country too.
Look forward to hearing from you when you have time.
    Big hugs,
    Elisabeth

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I just got your message now. I really enjoyed Frankenstien, that old English writing never ceases to amaze me! I have the Allende book in soft cover here, but I haven't had a chance to pick it up in a while. Have you finished it? Well, hope all is well!

Hi Chris - what about meeting for dinner? the 4 of us? The Betty Ford book - I really liked it. A friend and I had gone to the Raue Center in the Fall (during hunting season - her husband hunts as well) and saw a one woman show on the first ladies (Betty, Pat and Lady Bird) - it was so good that I want to read their autobiographies. Makes you realize it is important not only on who is President, but who the wife is as well!

    Hola Chris,
A million thanks for your piece of advice about American poetry! Don't worry, I'll find some work by Billy Collins and Jane Kenyon in original in FNAC, the biggest bookstore in Barcelona.
Have you enjoyed some translated works by Spanish poets? I heartly recommend you Antonio Machado, Miguel Hernández and Rosalia de Castro -a romantic poet. Also the Chilene Pablo Neruda and Mexican Octavio Paz.
Thanks again for your lovely note, you are kind as always !

    Hi Chris,
I saw that you're reading "The House of the Spirits" by Allende, a very engaging novel. Do you like reading Spanish writers?
I am not read English poetry yet ... and I know you have Eudora, Jane Kenyon and Keylor as favorite poets. What kind of poetry collection do you recommend? Keep in mind it would be my first English poet. A big thanks in advance.

Hi Chris. I'm so glad you joined Shelfari! I told you it was an amazing sight. Your note on my profile flatters me. And many thanks the other day when I stopped in for some coffee and to read. I was having a horrible day and it just meant so much to me to have a quiet space of my own to finally relax. God bless you. Katie

Hello! I'd like to know a bit more about you and your reading interests. Are you from the Midwest? I listen to WPR all the time, though usually the music service rather than the news stations. I check the website of Chapter a Day for their titles - a good source of reading.
