Wow! This is now my absolute #1 favorite book of all time! I laughed and laughed. I've loved Linda Howard's books for a while, love her writing style, but this one really did it for me. It's written in first person, which some people don't like to read. I think like Blair (although I'm nothing like her - go figure), so reading from her point of view was a treat. If you like romance, suspense, humor, great writing and some hot scenes, you will like this book. If you liked Mr. Perfect and Open Season also by Howard, you will LOVE this book!

I loved this book! I like Rachel Gibson's funny and irreverent writing style, and I also felt she captured the heroine Kate's insecurities in a way that made me feel Kate's pain in dealing with men. There's just enough of that in the story to give it depth without too much angst. The hero Rob has some issues of his own - he rejects her proposition in the opening scene but when you read his story, you'll understand why. Now if they can only resolve their feelings about past loves... Well, sure they do, it's a Romance!

  • Not Another Bad Date
    • Rated 5 stars

    I loved this book!

It's about heroine Adele Harris, a fantasy novel author who has been cursed with bad dates for 3 years by her former nemesis Devon. Devon is currently residing in Purgatory after meeting her Maker in a fatal auto accident. Devon managed to steal Adele's boyfriend Zach back in college, and has had it in for Adele since they attended first grade, so she has some issues to resolve. Given three chances to redeem herself to get into Heaven or be faced with Hell, it takes her a while to learn that the results of what you wish for aren't always what you expect.

Devon's widower Zach is the hero. He is now raising their daughter as a single father, and is in for a surprise when a number of forces bring him and Adele face to face again for the first time in 14 years. The big question is, will Devon's other-worldly manipulations keep them apart as she wishes, or bring them together?

I found this to be a delightful fantasy romp and a great ending to the Author Friends series. Through books 2 and 3 (and maybe book 1, but I haven't yet read it), we've been hearing about Adele's last long-term boyfriend, quasi-stalker Dwayne, and finally it becomes clear that he too has been under Devon's spell all along.

I liked all her characters, including the teens, and I even loved the epilogue, even though it features Devon, not Adele and Zach. In my opinion, it's clearly a nod to Adele's fantasy books that Devon is the controlling factor in her fate and her HEA. Read it for the fantasy - I don't recommend trying to make it more realistic than it is!

Spencer is a wonderful storyteller, and she writes deep, realistic characters that make me feel what they are experiencing while I'm reading. I cried through the entire WWII sequence both times I read it. Melinda P

I find Jo Goodman's writing style incredible - rich, layered - it practically massages my brain. I could read A Season To Be Sinful over and over, and never tire of the wonderful ending where the scoundrels choose new names. Beowulf, indeed! Melinda P

  • Hot For Him
    • Rated 5 stars

I have this on audio, and this is my review from audible.com:

This is a terrific romance audio book - compelling story with witty dialog and interesting plot twists, as well as great narration. While romance in general is fairly predictable - always a happy ending - it's the journey that makes a romance novel work, and Claudia's journey is touching and realistic. It isn't just about the journey to romantic love with Leandro, but also her personal journey to accept her mother and find acceptance in her family. The relationship with her 2 best friends is also an important component (All Over You is Grace's story, and Sadie's story is only available in print). And the chemistry between Leandro and Claudia is good - and hot.

My faith in this author is restored after listening to Burning Up (which I found to be a big disappointment, predictable and cliche-ridden). Hot For Him is a 5-star listen!
