I think that Diana Gabaldon is the author of the books from hell series, but I'm not sure which series it is. Check it out and see if you remember.
To delete a book, click on the picture of the book itself and it will take you to the books page. From there you can see on the right side if any groups have added it and what other members have it on their list. On the left it will have a place where you can click to see other cover pictures, a place to add it to your wish and/or reading lists, and it should say 'on my shelf' and next to it will be the word (remove), just click on that and it will delete the book.
