I manage to read lots of novels thanks to my bus commute to my job every day.
I work as a cashier at Staples, but I also write weekly astrology content, take art courses at night, and read tarot cards and astrology for select clients. I live in the west end of Toronto with my hubby, my two (now adult) children, 3 cats and a pittadore (lab... more »

I have been stuck in a "3 star" book rut lately, nothing with a wow factor. The last couple of books I read that I gave a higher rating were:
One Second After By William R. Forstchen - if you read post-apocalyptic fiction this is one of the best I have read in a long time- really scary because it could happen.
    On the more literary side:
Little Bee by Chris Cleave was moving. So was Labor Day by Joyce Maynard. Both great books I would recommend and I have seen that they have gotten great reviews from other readers.

Thanks so much for accepting my friend request. While I have you here, I was wondering . . . would you be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here (as well as on a few other book-related sites). I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

My lack of focus has prevented me from reading much lately. I read and really enjoyed Peace Like A River for my book group. You have quite a few books on your shelf that I am looking forward to reading too!
I did pick up a book from the library that I hope to get to soon, it's gotten good reviews. It's called The Sky Isn't Visible from Here: Scenes from a Life
    by Felicia Sullivan.

I went to the midnight realease. It was great. Many have been unhappy, but you have to go in knowing that no movie lives up to the book completly. The key elements and points are there. It felt a little rushed because in the book things take so long. The movie was made for fans of the book so if you have not read it it will not be a good movie for those people (maybe). Lots of background not there that if you know it from the book you have a more fullfilling experience. Great adaptation!

I am so glad you liked it. The series has become one of my rotation books (the ones I reread over and over) very few others are in this group. I am even going with some book friends to the midnight release of the movie. So happy you liked them.

Yes read Twilight! It was hard to put down because Stephenie Meyers did a nice job of detailing her characters. I felt I was there. She weaves a story a lot of people identify with...family disfunction, divorce, new school, don't fit in with kids, young love. Your imagination is sparked and I read all four books, wish there were more. I hear from my students she is writing a book from Edward's perspective. Can't wait for the movie. I have students reading these books that last year would not read 100 pages. I was and am still amazed!

Hi! If you like chick lit, I'd say read 'Twilight.' I don't really know why it was so hard to put down. But a lot of my friends read it because it helped them destress after a long day at work.
