ChestertonsGhost

ChestertonsGhost

I have a BFA in Film/Media from NYU, a BA in History and a Masters in Medieval Studies (History) from Fordham. I go through phases where all I want to explore are dry non-fiction tomes and other times that all I want to read are novels. I am a big fan of the Beats, Southern Fiction but also love Garcia-Marquez, Eco and Calvino.

You asked about the Gargoyle. The details on how burn victims are treated is graphic. But the rest I think you will enjoy.

I think you'll like it. The first part of the book is very graphic and hard to get through, but the later stories are fantastic. This guy really did some research into medievel history and world folklore..enjoy!

Thanks! For accepting my invite :) I too enjoy some Southern Fiction, and have read a few books by Garcia-Marquez.

I look forward to chatting with you about a few of the books we have in common :)

Hello! I actually haven't read "No God but God" yet, but I'm a huge fan of Os Guinness. If you get through it soon, do let me know what you think!

Ahhh...a lover of Southern literature. I am a big fan of Flannery O'Connor, graduated from her alma mater, and live in her home town. I had an opportunity to give a presentation and lead a discussion on Flannery at Georgia College & State University a couple of years ago. It was a lot of fun.

I read "My Old True Love" and it was awesome! Better than Trigiani's Big Stone Gap Trilogy. Artie and Zeke really had it goin' on. I've actually seen that independent film "Songcatcher" that she worked on, believe it or not.

I am working my way through McCrumb. I've read her short story collection and most of the mysteries. Haven't gotten to the ballad novels yet, but everyone says they are her best.

I stumbled upon your name on Shelfari today and scanned your shelves. We don't have much in common except that you've read "Clapton's Guitar" and I know Wayne, who lives near me, and I dearly love G.K.C. I take comfort in Chesterton's words, "There are souls more sick of pleasure than you are sick of pain." So what southern authors besides Chuck Frazier do you like? He comes from around here too.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll definitely check it out. We have a great used bookstore here, nothing over $2 so I'll see if I can find it there. Calvino is indeed wonderful. Does your profile name refer to GK Chesterton? He's one of my favorites. Oh, and thanks for being my first friend here.

Thanks for the note, the friend invite and mostly the book recommendation. I'm going to check it out. I'm reading "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle" by Haruki Murakami right now. I like it so far.

Welcome to Shelfari! You've got some interesting books I need to add to my reading list (it's getting a bit unwieldy). What are your favorite books (or current)? Ciao!
