Cherry D

I am an avid reader of ScienceFiction/Fantasy/Romance books and always on the look out for a good book to read. I dabble in the black arts of light and shadow... err mmm... photography, I mean. I am also in great excess of 18 years old.

  3. Joshua Palmatier

Cherry D edited the summary of Joshua Palmatier Friday, December 12 2008.

    • About Joshua Palmatier:
Joshua Palmatier was born in Coudersport, PA, but since his father was in the military he moved around. Alot. He's lived in the states of Pennsylvania (three times), Florida (twice), Washington, California (briefly), Virginia, Texas (twice), and now resides in upstate New York. He has spent the majority of his life so far going to school, earning a Bachelors of Science and a Master of Arts degree in mathematics from the Pennsylvania State University, followed by a PhD in mathematics from Binghamton University. He is currently teaching mathematics (what else) at the State University of New York--Oneonta, taught for two years at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, and taught for three years at Bloomsburg University while taking a break between his masters degree and the PhD.

Joshua started writing science fiction and fantasy novels and short stories in the eighth grade, when the teacher assigned a one page Twilight Zone-ish short story. He wrote a story about Atlantis. It was from the perspective of one of the inhabitants as he escaped in a spaceship, watching his world being destroyed by water from one of the viewports of the ship. He got an A. Joshua has never stopped writing since, mainly focusing on novels.

The Skewed Throne is Joshua's first published novel, but it's the fourth novel he's written. The sequels--The Cracked Throne and The Vacant Throne--are now finished and handed in, with The Vacant Throne set to be released in January 2008. He is currently hard at work on the start of a new series set in the same world as the Throne novels. The first book is called Well of Sorrows. You can email him with questions or comments at jpalmatier@sff.net.

  4. Wilson, Colin

Cherry D edited the summary of Wilson, Colin Friday, December 12 2008.

    • Words From Cherry:
We at the Rhondda Valley are proud to claim that Colin is one of our home-grown talents. He writes short stories for children. But having said that, I believe that he is now branching out to other areas in writing. It is something to look forward to.

Yeah, he writes children's stories. I was the only adult in the kiddie section in the Treorchy Library (our local library). Trying to fit my adult self into miniature chairs and tables while the real kids there were giving me a strange look. I enjoyed his book even though I am in great excess of ten years old.

About Colin In His Own Words:
I'm Colin R. Parsons. The R in the middle of my name stands for Ryan and was given to me by my grandfather.

I was born on November the 8th 1960 in the Rhondda Valley. This is in South Wales in the United Kingdom and I have lived there all my life. It’s a beautiful part of the world with its mountains and lakes and quiet surroundings.

Writing has always been something I enjoyed rather than a heavy task. Where as I was never any good at maths or science, writing seemed more natural. Some people love wood carving or painting or poetry. Not for me I’m afraid, but writing always took me to another world where I could forget about all the boring stuff as a child.

In my youth I was a member of my local library, but I wasn’t an avid reader. I used to listen to audiocassettes of H.G.Wells, ‘The Time Machine' and 'The Lost World' by Sir Authur Conan Doyle, on my headphones. I should have been sleeping, which my parents thought I was . C.S. Lewis; The Lion,The Witch and The Wardrobe also excited my imagination, we had to read this in my reading class in primary school. The thought of walking through a piece of furniture and visiting another world, ‘blew my mind.’

These days I enjoy reading the work of new authors like: Kenneth Oppel...AirBorne, Sky Breaker and also Christopher Paolini, 'Eragon and Eldest series,' J K Rowling with of course 'Harry Potter,' and Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials,' series another popular author. I am also a big fan of Angie Sage her books, Magyk, Flyte and Physik are wonderful reads. I have been told by one of my fans, that my writing is similar to Angie Sage. My wife is totally into Chris D'Lacey, which I have read The Fire Within and Icefire, but I haven't had a chance to read the last book, Firestar. Very different and very good authors.

When I left school at sixteen I also left writing for quite a few years and didn’t start again until my early thirties. I wrote a short story called 'Halfway home,' and emailed it to the Crystal Serenades website, where eventually I put a lot of my short stories, adults and childrens. They brought out an anthology on adult horror and that was my first break. Since then I have published Wizards' Kingdom,' also Wizards' Kingdom 'The Obelisk of Ashmar.' The last instalment Wizards' Kingdom 'Jarraks Darkness' is also published.

      Likes and Dislikes

As stated in my book, I love Formula One motor sport, I can sit and watch it for hours. I love Sci-Fi such as Dr Who and Star Trek. I also like strawberry milkshakes, liquorice and toffee sweets... and long walks during the summer with my wife. I love visiting Laugharne in west Wales near Pendine where Dylan Thomas lived and created his most popular poetry.

I hate cold, dark, long winters. Stepping out of the shower when there is no towel and listening to people tell you how important they are. I also hate when people promise things and don't keep their word.
